Change is always happening. According to Eastern philosophy, which Bowie was into when he was trying on a hippie identity in his young days, states that the only permanent phenomena is change. Bowie was a deep thinker, as well as being a chameleon, corinthians and caricature.

To me this song is about facing whatever fears you may have in life, whether its something you can or cant control, you have to face it and embrace it because afterall life is full of change and if you arent facing the "strange" to then you will never find your self. i'm not saying that your interpretation is wrong, in fact most art is free to interpret as you may want, but iirc, David bowie wrote this with the themes because he felt like everyone wanted him to make a specific sort of music, stick to the same rock and roll, but he wanted to experiment and find his own sound. so he's telling everyone to face whats new and not to turn it away.

I was at his house last night after he came to my house the night before made love to me and said he loves and wants me. He was accused of raping a friend before she died.and on his phone he apparently likes them younger since a father had to confront him about exchanging sexual photos with his minor daughter. Rich doent own the trailer. He is only looking for a meal ticket because his current one is about out (his stepdad) and Richard will be a drunk back on the streets but don't believe me I know you already got a taste of his abuse. What makes this song so special is it captures perfectly the ambivalence we all have when we have to make changes to our lives and how we cannot go back ("but I can't trace time"). We may try to fake it with small but insufficient ones but to grow we have to face the "strange" (a nice allusion and alliteration to "strain") that change brings. It is up to us to either fake adaptation or embrace it as the only certain thing is that we are going to get older as time passes. Musically it is capture in the unstable opening of the chords and the nice harmonic palette and wide-ranging colors of the vocal delivery in the song (with the influence of the jazz tinged pop songs of Sinatra infusing the song).

'And these children that you spit on As they try to change their worlds Are immune to your consultations They're quite aware of what they're goin' through.' Perhaps we'll always be these children, looking for a way to change whatever it is that troubles our own little worlds. But atleast we have Bowie and his music, and that's amongst the closest we can get to finding a cure for the human condition.

Hunky Dory is an EPIC album. It was the first Bowie album I bought in 1983 (I was late to the party). I remember staring at the cover for hours, it was beautiful. To this day, the lyrics are relevant. They still speak to me.

On 3 December 1971, David Bowie released the single "Changes" in the UK. This track, featured on the album Hunky Dory. I was born in 1973 and raised on Bowie. Thanks Mum. My first concert was Ziggy Stardust! (From the womb of course 😉) I remember learning of Bowies sad departure on the 10th of January 2016 whilst I was in Paris for my birthday. It felt like I'd lost an actual relative! 💔DAVID FUCKING BOWIE!❤🩹 #HappyBirthdayChanges #DanGerShev
