This was the tour I was lucky enough to see David on, I think I have held every other gig up to that and nothing has ever quite come close. He truly was incredible

I like this version - it's really an elusive song - it's 70's funk and can hold up with just Bowie's vocal and the enigmatic lyric - it doesn't need the fancy pants electronica that he usually threw into even the live shows. But Adrian Belew and a drummer can really take the Bowie weirdness one giant leap into the basic truth of the song.

@BravuraK The clear and masterly Bowie's voice beats this funky, which is by its same nature a rhythm of joy, here performed it in a crescendo that, as you say, uplifts (in spite of the message). But, as we know, David loves to point out the contradictions, making them always with gracefulness. Thanks so much for the comment, dear Susan.

@VampireBowie Life in the spotlight, a phenomenon with a backstage arduous to manage. Also fame has its price, not always expected, mostly by those young people who seek a quick success, as a Machiavellian end, potential victims of a chimera that fatally will use them just as quickly to sunset, with an empty feeling. Chic Bowie's anthem, contemplation, sprung from conversations with Lennon: about fame takes away parts of lives and about large profits-management. Heartfelt thanks, Vampire.

So many different versions of this classic song! lead guitar Adrian Belew is quite something, but neglects to play the basic riff.

My first David Bowie concert as I attended the Stockholm show. SPACE ODDITY was a highlight (Fame'90 wasn't bad) but most of the rest left me cold ... the best Bowie tour that I saw was the 2003/04 one although I suspect the 1976 one was even better. To me, the 1990 was too pared-down. Young Americans or Let's Dance won' work without a horn section.

@redsails2008 It's true, nothing to say, but one thing I would say ... there are many versions of this piece, never equal to one another: among the different performances, we heard Bowie do incredible things: repeat the word "fame", each with a different note up to 23 times, through a vocal range of 4 octaves! Well... it is a wonder, ha ha. Thank you my sweet Friend.
