This is my favorite Bowie period. Amazing work--though decades later he could hardly remember a thing from this period due to all the cocaine...

Bowie himself has said as much...no shame and no disrespect...many 70's bands were cocaine fuelled to keep up with the demands of creating and recording. The important thing is that he overcame the addiction and remained relevant and maintained his creativity.

I agree cocaïne is a stimulant as well as an appetite suppressant i read in an interview that David cured himself of dépression by doing all his own dosmestic regular chores like shopping for groceries, dishes etc while living in Berlin hats off to a regular guy with the avant-gatde genius creativity miss you much .i will never forget the night we spoke briefly in Montreal in 1984 .Tonight is a great album

In 1975 I was 12 yrs old. I remember this song came on the radio and then he performed the song on television. Didn't know really who he was but that tune was so fresh than any radio song back then...it was like new alternative music for that time.. I'm 59 now (2022) and It is still fresher than ever.. stayed that way for all these decades. Golden years, Golden years...come get up my baby

To think Elvis was considered for this song - he probably wouldn't have done a bad job but..... this was made for Bowie and released at the end of 1975. From Glam rock to Soul funk, he lost himself as the Thin White Duke and became his most creative in the process. A not to be repeated dance classic.

@@LoveOneAnotherHeSaidYes there is proof. It is written in one of Angie’s books. Her story is they were carrying a tape around to hand it over. I think they handed it to Elvis’ management or entourage who may or may not have given it to him. Personally I don’t think it would have been Elvis’ style, also it is on record that Colonel Parker often insisted that writers give half their writing credit to Elvis. I think Word on a Wing would have been more Elvis’ style, but it was also a personal song for Bowie (inspired by feelings he had during the filming of Man Who Fell to Earth, which I just read in the book “Earthbound”).

"Station to Station" is, IMO, one of the Greatest Albums Ever. Years before any rock/disco fusion was even a "thing", he basically perfected the combination. The title song of that album is epic. His version of "Wild Is the Wind" creates - for me at least - the rare 3-Way Tie for definitive version, along with Nina Simone's and Johnny Mathis' renditions. (All to me are equally moving and beautiful in very different ways; DO NOT ask me for my "favorite".) And "Word On A Wing" is simply one of the most beautiful songs I've yet heard in the English language...
