Another great reaction! Definitely the same vibe as I’m Still Standing. Both songs came out in 1983, so there must’ve been something in the air that year.

As a drummer I can tell you that's Motown. You can two step to it. It picks up a quarter beat halfway to make you go nuts on the dancefloor

I saw him 3 times live! He was great. And for me had the best voice of anyone who ever lived. Please react to 'Wild is the Wind' and 'Life on Mars'. He has a lot of great songs. He also played 14 instruments, painted a lot, was a sculpturist, and played in a lot of movies likes for example in 'The Prestige'.

Since its release, "Modern Love" has received critical acclaim from music critics, who praised Bowie's songwriting, its production, and its power as an opening track. It is generally considered one of the best songs on his Let's Dance album and has since been called one of Bowie's greatest songs :)

Not even in the top 50 of Bowie compositions. The whole album was nothing more than a blip on an otherwise perfect discography.

In 200 years if we survive, Bowie will be up there, immortalised together with all the great ones, Mozart, Beethoven, Dylan, Pink floyd, the Thin White Duke is a force still rumbling in the world.

Always loved Modern Love … can’t fully articulate why but it hit me the first time and still hits me. Love, love, love it. If you think its way down on his compositions, no worries. We all get to decide what moves us. Cheers!

Jayy, you are NOT the only one who thinks Bowie was handsome! I was deeply smitten by him as a young person. When this song came out, it was a serious club banger! Also, you know David Bowie was married until he died to the supermodel Iman. She obviously thought he was handsome, too!

One thing about Mr. David Bowie is he ALWAYS worked with top flight musicians on all his project. Saw him on his "Glass Spider" tour in the late 80's, and he had Peter Frampton as a part of his band, and not even for the whole show! BTW, David and Sir Elton John were good friends, and VERY aware of each others work.

I saw Bowie in concert three times. One of the shows was the night this video and Life on Mars was recorded in Philadelphia. My cousin still has one of the crescent moon balloons. If you are seriously gonna go down this rabbit hole please check out songs from Diamond Dogs, Aladdin Sane and of course, Ziggy. ANY of the songs from these albums are worth the time and sffort to listen to them. My favorite is David Live at the Tower Theatre I Philadelphia. It covers some of the songs from these albums and two earlier ones. First suggestion from me would be from Diamond Dogs, Sweet Thing - Candidate - Sweet Thing (Reprise). Please, enjoy! 🍻🖖 ✌️❤️&😁

Jay dear, you are right. ”Modern Love” does sound a bit like ”I'm Still Standing" and they both sound like 80's songs made to be played in discos where people danced and had fun. This is what the public wanted, this is what sold well and got them money and this is what they provided. It did its job then, Bowie's album "Let's Dance" sold well, he filled arenas at his concerts and he got out of long years of financial troubles. It is what it is, artists need to eat too, they have family, children, employees, contracts with record companies etc. On the other hand, it's hard to see Bowie singing what everyone else was singing at the time. In the 70s he was a trailblazer, he was 10 years ahead of the others at least. In the 80s he was popular, and rich, and not happy at all with himself, so he veered off the mainstream again after 1988. You say he was handsome. Yes he was. Not really in this video, though, 'cause he had started to lose weight again (maybe a cocaine relapse?) and white perm is never a good choice. You can see he is not well... He had some periods when he looked rather bad ('74-75 and around '83-'84). I'm not a fan of the Ziggy/Aladdin Sane/Halloween Jack look, I hate goatees and the emaciated Nosferatu look is not my cup of tea either. Otherwise he was a good looking man. My favourite period is 1977-1982. If you want to see absolutely gorgeous Bowie, check out his 1978 live videos 😍.

Great song choice to react to! Watch the SNL live video of him performing "The Man Who Sold the World" and "Boys Keep Swinging." Those performances were ahead of Its time, and it'll make you appreciate Bowie in a way you did not before.
