Really interesting, as Taylor plays on Ian Hunter's 2 most recent albums, Defiance 1 and 2. 1 is out now on Sun records, with a link on their site to Ian Hunter writing about Taylor and how he came to play on the albums 💕

So is playing a song written by Bowie but first recorded by Mott the Hoople considered a Bowie cover or a Mott the Hoople cover? I mean most people consider singing Crazy a Patsy Cline cover and not a Willie Nelson cover.
@tomCA5592 жыл бұрын
First one to record it and release it gets the credit for "the original" even though you could say Mott "covered" the Bowie song and still be OK. Bowie recorded his version later. And Bowie never recorded a demo, and never played it live until after the Mott version was released. So, it's a Mott/Bowie cover, or a Mott cover. Bowie's version was never released until much later.

yeah, but Bowie's & Mott's versions of lyrics do differ significantly in that verse. "do need tv", "don't need tv". i figure they thought, Bowie gets lost in his own songs & makes up new words while singing it, so fuck it "Wendy's stealing clothes from ARXENSPARX!"

@thebourbonscene8452 жыл бұрын
I'm afraid you're wrong pal. The song was written by bowie, demo was recorded for "ziggy stardust and the spiders from Mars" album. However Mott the Hoople were being babies and gonna bust up, so Bowie gave them a hit. If you listen to that album "Ziggy stardust", this song is a missing piece from the record. It's also not the rock anthem for the youth, but rather the opposite. These things I just told you aren't my opinion, they are facts that you can easily find online in interviews with bowie, Mott the Hoople and others.
