I wonder how many people can actually take advantage of the Atmos and 5.1 mixes. It has to be a really niche market.

Quite a niche market for this I would imagine. It would be interesting to know what percentage of people will be able to take advantage of the full Atmos version of this compared to the percentage of those who will only be able to take advantage of the Atmos version folding down to a 5.1 surround sound mix on an older none Atmos capable 5.1 surround sound system. I myself have a fairly old now but very expensive at the time DTS and Dolby Digital capable Panasonic 5.1 surround sound system and a fairly new Atmos capable Panasonic TV via the TV speakers. I’ve no idea if my 5.1 surround sound amp can convert the Atmos version so it plays Atmos via my TV’s speakers? Trial and error I suppose, but it seems a worthwhile purchase if I’m able to take advantage of the folded down Atmos 5.1 mix which will apparently be different from the old Ken Scott 2003 5.1 mix, and the 2024 stereo mix should be interesting and worthwhile to have as well. The really high res version of the 2012 remaster will again be trial and error as to whether I can play it to full advantage without it defaulting to the lower res version🤔

@DorisDay-lw4xs Hum your probably not alone. I took a chance and bought it and tbh it’s out of this world. It’s the nearest we are going to get to actually experiencing being in the studio with Bowie and the band, it’s that good. 👍🏻 The previously available 5.1 mix was brilliant but listening to the Ziggy album in Dolby Atmos Spatial Audio takes things up to a totally new level. I’m not particularly audio technical and my Surround sound system is really quite old now but it plays the Atmos version and the original 1972 hi rez mix ok via the surround sound speakers or via the tv speakers. ( Surround sound speakers is by far the best. ) My TV is Dolby Atmos capable so I’m not sure if it’s actually that or the surround sound system that’s doing the magic? Either way it’s an essential purchase or at the very least an essential listen.

Not quite the original mix. First vinyl pressings used the single mix of Starman which was replaced at some point by an alternative mix

Hi Paul, thanks for the heads up, and taking the time to make people aware of the Blu-ray 2 channel stereo 192 24-bit version along with the new Dolby Atmos mix. Shame then, that you get all the old dinosaurs coming on here, hiijacking the post, talking about the vinyl versions😫......at least you didn't get anyone telling you how niche Dolby Atmos must be to the few people that have a home cinema set up 🤣 .....oh wait , you did!😁

I was looking forward to this, but the drum sampling has killed it for me. Just sounds like a drum machine and it's sucked the life from it. The same mistake was made with the 2010 mix of STS as well.
