Stacy Heydon on lead guitar, not Earl Slick. A criminally overlooked Bowie sideman. Fucking gigantic tone and a perfect winding intro solo. Opening a huge song for a huge icon would make most guitarists shit their pants. Stacy brought a Telecaster, an afro, and a shit load of talent. Nailed it like a boss.

@@AJ-hs2ld i imagine it was more than just cocaine that Bowie had trouble with, and it could more or less also have to do with his experiences in the LA slums honing his new (but brief) Reactionary stance in politics, along with an eruption of a spiritual/existential crisis that may have been building up for a while "I always felt I was on the edge of events, the fringe of things, and left out. " and all that anger becomes correlated with his unhappy marriage with Angie etc

Seeing David Bowie smile and laugh because of the background vocals put such a big smile on my own face, and I couldn't help but laugh with him. This really shows how good of a sport he is! Can you imagine what other performers would have done? They'd probably get annoyed, stop the rehearsal, and scold the one doing bg vocals -- just make a big deal out of it overall. Instead we have this gentleman continue on singing. Love David Bowie so much!

In my opinion every song of the show is a best version of its original. There's not only music in it, there's a full atmosphere. I think Bowie was the kind of artist whose you can't dissociate his music and his character. If you don't like one of these, you just can't like David Bowie at all. I really think he would not have the same success if he didn't have that talent in composition and incarnation. Plus he was original, which didn't hurt either. All these advantages made him a phenomenon, a rockstar, a name, a face, a singer anyone knows. An icon.

I only saw him once, actually twice (I repeated two days in a row on the same tour). It was very strange because they seemed like two different Bowies. The public did not know that the first day was bad and they almost failed (I knew that days after the performances). And a very serious Bowie came out (now I think that on that tour he didn't stop moving and he had to be terrible, that's how the bad mood was reflected on his face), he acted just and didn't do a single encore. The second day was as if he had touched a magic wand because the smile and connection with the public was total... he really was someone else! In addition, he said goodbye after leaving and adding another four classics in which we did not stop singing and jumping... I have the feeling engraved in my soul!

@@dyermaker4731 Unfortunately I didn’t, I’m not sure I even had a working camera back then. I actually bunked into the Empire Pool as it was known back then with a mate, I was working as a ‘display artist’ for RCA Records at the time & had a couple of boxes of Station to Station sleeves I used to help bluff our way in. I told the security guard the records (he didn’t realise they were empty sleeves!) were for me to give out to David’s guests & that I’d leave a few for him after the show. The bluff worked a treat & we got to sit quite near the stage, but made sure we left in a hurry once the concert ended & before the Security guard realised he’d ‘been Tangoed’!
