Hey, not sure if you know but I just found out there were only 2000 green Earthling vinyls released. I thought mine was just how it came until I saw someone on Reddit mention it. Quite expensive these days.

Amazing video mate, love it. David Bowie is also by far my all time favourite artist, no one comes even close. I am also busy collecting all of his albums on vinyl (well not all of them but let's say 80% of it). First one I bought was The Man Who Sold The World, simply because it's one of my favourite albums of his (besides, it has the most beautiful album cover out of all). The dark and gritty tone of it, the guitar centred hard rock sound to it in combination with the strange lyrics make it one of my favourites. I really find it hard to believe that that album wasn't a commercial success back then.

Thank You for a very nice video! I have been a Bowie collector for almost 30 years now. I agree with Your pick of "Heroes" as the best song ever! I was lucky to see him live six times. I was devastated when he died, and I still miss him very much. Give Your sweet dog a hug from me! Kind regards, Kalle in Sweden

quite an amazing collection there James, impressive. To think you've covered a 50 year recording career in the span of 12 months is pretty amazing, especially considering the demand for his albums these days is at an all time high. You got me beat as I don't have a few of these comps and soundtracks. No rush to get them and I'm in a good place with Bowie stuff. It was fun to see them all though so you got a lifetime of listening there to enjoy. Cheers James

Great video. I love "Never Let Me Down". When that came out I graduated from High School and went to college 2 weeks later. I bought the cassette and love it. I'm sorry people didn't appreciate it. I'm surprise you didn't get "Absolute Beginners" 12 inch or the soundtrack since Bowie did two or three songs on there.

Very nice video but you are missing a few essentials. Apart from the live albums that have recently been released there are two studio albums which you can only get as bootlegs. Buddha Of Suburbia from 1993 (better than Black Tie White Noise). It is billed as a soundtrack but in "reality" it is a full blown proper Bowie album and "Toy" the unreleased album from 2001. It leaked onto the net in 2011 and the bootleggers had a field day. It includes a few new songs (2 of which ended up on Heathen) but the majority were recrecordings of his 1960's songs and yes, Silly Boy Blue was on it too! Another disc you should try and hunt down is the Baal EP which was released on 12" and 7". This was from a TV play in 1982, an adaption of Bertolt Brecht's Baal featuring 5 songs.

James, top stuff, Something you may want to check out is the very rare, we"ll EMI reissued it with the 1999 remastered CD's, is David Bowie - Original Soundtrack - Christiane F. Wir kinder vom Bahnhof Zoo, amazing blend of Heroes/Helden is a highlight. Original HQ vinyl is tough too find but the running order makes it an awesome way to experience the 'Berlin Period'. Also the restored running order / full set versions of David Live and Stage from 2002 are worthwhile immersions. Bowie at the Beeb 2cd i feel is more worthwhile than the rehashed Deram/Decca compilations, it's shows growth and Mick Ronson. A 3CD version features Radio Sessions [Live at the BBC Radio Theatre, 6.27.2000] as an additional value, It's great. The Ryko Disc Reissues from 1990 onward offer a couple of gems, Space Oddity has 3 additional trks, 2 of them being Memory of a Free Festival, where Ronson plays for the first time, when he kicks in you can hear the future.. And check out Dallas Moonlight 1983.05.06, rehearsal recording for the Serious Moonlight Tour with Stevie Ray Vaughn on lead, before the disagreement over money, of which Stevie and Bowie knew nothing of, it was a "between Managers piece of business". I can't imagine how cool that tour would have sounded with SRV at full noise through that rig. Earl Slick was perfect though. Getting too know Bowie's Sidemen/Collaborators is an interesting exercise, he worked with the finest musicians/talents of the age, on each of his albums, someone spectacular want's to play with/for him. Pete Townshend's contribution on Slow Burn on Heathen is a throw back to the greatness of early The Who... The first book on Bowie my sister bought me for my birthday before seeing Glass Spider in Nov 1987, called Alias David Bowie by Peter and Leni Gillman, it's probably inaccurate these days, but there are plenty of interesting books/encyclopedias etc to read from. Oh yep finally Santa Monica 72' Official release 2008.06.30 EMI - Ziggy in America...

I just came across your video and really enjoyed it. I was wondering if you could answer a question for me. I heard a song by Bowie some years ago on the radio but did not catch the title of the song. I remember that the lyrics included the line "She's the living end" several times. Just replaying your video - you did well to collect the majority of that in a year. Prices on some of the rarer stuff are quite high, especially on the internet, so did you find that you paid more than you really wanted to just to get the collection or did you strike lucky and find them at fairs etc. for more favourable prices.

hey nice Bowie collection , I think your dog mazey is getting more interested in music as well , but very cool video of albums, I do have audio tape concert of Bowie that they broadcasted live on his last tour that I recorded off the radio , there an interview before concert where Bowie says when he tours he carrys a big bag of books with him , he liked to read I guess , and the interviewer asked him , " you have had a lot of personas thru the years ,which persona do you have now " and Bowie said really quick , 'Jim Morrison , then he laughed and said , " oh wait that's someone else" , the song he opened the concert after the interview was rebel rebel , , yes yes I did enjoy thanks for sharing , did I hear you correctly , it sounded like you said you were born in 1970 ????? , really cool Bowie albums , this is ground control to major tom , you,ve really made the grade , thanks & Rock On

Great collection although I have never really been able to get into Bowie. I have a couple of compilations and Lets Dance, but that's it. Not sure if he is an acquired taste - on the back of your video, I have dipped in and out of a few albums via Qobuz, but on first hearings on a few early albums, nothing is really leaping out. Yes there are a few tracks, but cannot get inspired to buy any albums - maybe I need to hear the whole album, but not sure I can afford to commit. Funny how different artists connect straight away, whilst others do not.
@rockboy680
@rockboy680 7 жыл бұрын
emjel that's a shame but hey ho we can't all agree to like the same artists. I'm not sure I'd say he is a required taste because of his popularity but if your not a big fan your not a big fan. There are plenty of popular artists I don't like either so it's understandable. Take care mate
@emjel-yi9eg
@emjel-yi9eg 7 жыл бұрын
rockboy680 Hello James - thanks for your comments. I wondered if he was an acquired taste as opposed to "required" taste. You have certainly built up quite a collection for someone so young, unless you're Dorian Gray in disguise. Like you, I'm also into The Beatles, but also Elvis in a very big, but both of those artists are virtually exhausted, so perhaps I need to find another artist to collect as a challenge. I was trying to figure out a way to send you a PM or email, but cannot see anything around here that enables that - maybe it's a wood/trees thing. Can you drop me an email at emjel@aol.com as I am interested in how you got the Collecting bug. Cheers.
@rockboy680

emjel cheers mate. Well there's a good example of a popular artists who I can't get into there with elvis. Lol. I'd probably recommend either collection ELO next as they really picked up where the Beatles left of or Eric clapton as he has that classic rock sound as well mixed with blues. Plus his albums are amazing. Lol. I'll prop you an email when I get some free time mate. I'll keep it in mind though :) take care

Out of curiosity, what percentage of your collection contains recent releases as opposed to original ones. I understand some have been reissued this month, which I assume are straight copies of the 1969-74 Box Set. Obviously the book and a couple of other albums are bonuses with the box.
