My uncle was an actor in LA for 30 years, I moved in with him at age 16, he knew David and many more, He said David was the funniest guy he knew besides Dick Wilson, Mr Whipple father of Melanie Wilson of Perfect strangers TV show, he dated her a couple years before the show.
