For anyone who has tried to sing this song, they will know just how tricky it is. David Campbell must be one of the most underrated singers in Oz. He demonstrates mastery and oozes effortless performance in this rendition. I am very jealous!

I remember hearing this recording several years ago and couldn't stop crying for two days I was so moved. Then again, much of Bucchino's music elicits that sort of reaction within me....

I've got a roof over my head I've got a warm place to sleep Some nights I lie awake counting gifts Instead of counting sheep I've got a heart that can hold love I've got a mind that can think There may be times when I lose the light And let my spirits sink But I can't stay depressed When I remember how I'm blessed Grateful, grateful Truly grateful I am Grateful, grateful Truly blessed And duly grateful In a city of strangers I've got a family of friends No matter what rocks and brambles fill the way I know that they will stay until the end I feel a hand holding my hand It's not a hand you can see But on the road to the promised land This hand will shepherd me Through delight and despair Holding tight and always there Grateful, grateful Truly grateful I am Grateful, grateful Truly blessed And duly grateful It's not that I don't want a lot Or hope for more, or dream of more But giving thanks for what I've got Makes me so much happier than keeping score In a world that can bring pain I will still take each chance For I believe that whatever the terrain Our feet can learn to dance Whatever stone life may sling We can moan or we can sing Grateful, grateful Truly grateful I am Grateful, grateful Truly blessed And duly grateful

I would give almost anything to be able to write or sing like either of these two.

This song, and "Listen To My Heart" by Nancy LaMott (written by David Friedman) are my absolute favorites. I really like all of the versions of John Bucchino's "Grateful." David Campbell's version is truly one of my favorites. This song is what I call, a musical "oil painting."

What a wonderful song. Hearing songs like this really help me to just stop for a few moments and thank all the beauty in my life, and to be thankful for all that I have. Thank you for helping me to slow down and just be thankful.

A friend once linked me to John B on facebook and I froze - I've loved his music for so long, I didn't know how to start! I have his Beatles piano improv CD, the Richard Rogers piano cd(an all time favorite), this one, It's only life, the Grateful cd(which I wore to a nub) and a 45 promo of Love Doesn't Always Stick Around from back in the day. When I listen to THREE, I often just do the middle section-Lavender Girl, that John wrote. I have a few others to pick up like the Arrow lp but I'm a bit gobsmacked by his touch. Likewise, I've collected David Campbell - Better than I was the perfect intro but now I think of him and that bongo on Begin The Beguine.
