David makes fun of his own looks, doesn't consider himself to be that handsome (big nose, ears, doesn't like his hair). But he's got that undeniable something about him that makes him very attractive imo. Yes, he has a beautiful body, no question there. And those blue eyes of his are mesmerizing. But he also exudes masculinity - of the 'mature' (i.e. manly) type - NOT 'boyish.' I can see how he'd appeal to WOMEN (as opposed to little girls and teenies). And I think even the average guy would find something about him to like since he doesn't look or act 'feminine' or come across as too juvenile. I'd go so far as to describe him as a 'man's man' who is handsome without being a 'pretty boy.' Yes, I can definitely understand his appeal.

Your identity has nothing to do with the way you look. Look at Bjork , she doesn't really define the Scandinavian type and yet she is as Icelandic as i am, and i have extremely black hair and very deep green eyes , so nothing very Scandinavian either. I think Gandy looks very much English. Italian are not necessarily dark, i know many Italians from the northern part of Italy near Switzerland who look completely germanic , while some look scandinavian and some look greek or arabic, there is absolutely not one typical italian type . There is a cliche but not a type.

Male modelling is a little bit of luck and a whole heap of hard work, to get there and to stay there. Glamour? Maybe, but there's not much glamour in being strict with your dietary regimen most of the time, then upping your training 4 weeks out of from the shoot to look your best on the day in underwear. Even then, whether you get the gig depends on the client: if they want a successful exec look, forget the twinks, if they want long hair, forget the short hair look, if they want a blonde, bad luck if you're black haired, and if they want the shirt to drape straight off the shoulders, forget all that chest and shoulder muscle you spent years building up. David Gandy got lucky - good for him.
