One of the greats! He makes that black strat, sing...speak...weep....argue...harmonize...teach...and even much much more than that! What an incredible guitarist....singer...songwriter...and a lovely man, inside and out. I went through grade school with the Beatles, Stones and then into high school with the Pink Floyd band. Oh yes and then all those great bands from the 60s and 70s. The best years of music ever I must say. First there was, "Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band". And then came, "The Dark Side Of The Moon". Just out of high school when that masterpiece arrived.

Jeff Beck made him seem a complete amateur. He stood on stage transfixed, hardly daring to approach the fingerboard for fear of making a ‘mess of it’. On the Roger Waters album Amused to Death Jeff wrung notes that Gilmour would never be able to conceive let alone play. Nope... he is a guitarist with NO improvisational skills or immediacy... A studio resident.

After Waters left Pink Floyd, they released “A Momentary Lapse of Reason” in ‘87. And after that, a LIVE album and then “The Division Bell” in ‘94. Great albums by the way, different style and different lyrics but as unique as the Pink Floyd with Waters. I think “The Final Cut” was a good album but it was about enough of Waters’ lyrics. The band needed a refresh. Waters leaving the band was for the best. He had enough songs to go on his own anyway and obviously his career continued growing.
