The spirit of an era is something to which, unfortunately, we can't go back. The fact that Gilmour is still with us, blessing us with his music and the sound of his guitar is perhaps one of the few last glimpses we have to a world full of sound and beauty. Forever and ever David Gilmour!

Fortunately, anyone can get ahold of the video of Pink Floyd at Pompei and relive the experience, if only remotely. But a girlfriend, a bottle of some nice wine, some good weed and a good stereo will work as a substitute. Sometimes you have to help.

A lot of the great songs are Roger’s words but it’s David soul that brings them to life and makes them epic.
@nectarinedreams72083 ай бұрын
Nope, your history is a bit off there. Roger wrote the music for the majority of their great songs. Those songs started with him. It was his soul that conceived of them, and they were complemented wonderfully by David. The partnership was one of the greatest in music history, but to say those songs were Roger's words and David's soul is ridiculous.

@@nectarinedreams7208 Pink Floyd is my best band, so i know every single song...My favorite PF song is the Great Gig in the Sky,...Rick Wright wrote the music and Clare Torry the vocals. My second is Echoes...the music, credited to all the band, was mainly written by Richard Wright and David Gilmour, while the lyrics from Roger Waters. My third is Time...composed by all members as well with the lyrics by Roger Waters...
@kjek128 күн бұрын
@@nectarinedreams7208sorry but this is just utter bollocks. Shine on, echoes, wish you were here, us and them, great gig, dogs, comfortably numb. All dominated by Gilmour and Wright’s music. He might have written 95% of the lyrics but the bands biggest and most popular songs are unsurprisingly heavy on music from the other two. You might want to find out what you’re talking about before trying to correct other people. There’s a reason Roger dominated record and his solo stuff are flat as a pancake and regurgitate the same G, C, D progression again and again. There’s a reason he hasn’t written a great record since 1979.
@Bigfoot-px9gj4 күн бұрын
@@kjek1 Thanks for saving me the time and effort to write essentially the same thing. Have you noticed that almost every time you see someone write something like "your history is a bit off", it's usually their history that is off? Not always, but quite often...
@kjek14 күн бұрын
@@Bigfoot-px9gj it’s always the same! I find it really peculiar given the bands most popular songs among the fans really are songs that are heavy on Gilmour and Wright music. Of course it doesn’t help that Roger constantly refers to himself writing all the songs because in his mind if he wrote the words then that makes it his song exclusively.

I caught the tour at the end in 2016 at RAH in London. I had missed and missed shows over the years due to work, or whatever reason. It was so brilliant to finally see him and I ain't gonna lie, it was emotional for me, just like in those other folks faces. What I don't understand is that no other band/artist is like that for me. And I have seen them all. And I mean all of them. I hope I can see him one more time. He's my favorite artist, and his stuff will never not sound amazing. When he goes, there will never be anything like it again. He's the GOAT. During this lockdown and isolation time for a lot of thoughts. I am so glad I had the chance to see the guy. Life is so short. And for all those haters that say he sucks, or he's overrated, they don't know what the hell they are talking about.

I was there at São Paulo with my son. Back then I was 54 and he was 25 y.o. We sang every lyric of every song from start to finish. I feel that this kind of thing will never happen again in the next generations. The power of rock music is unique, a power that can travel time and make such a strong bond between generations. So sad that all of this is fading away, giving place to a mass of one-hit "artists" helped by sampling, loops and autotune, that shine for one season to be forgotten forever. A bit of saudosism from an old guy? Maybe, but I think it´s true.

He's a humble, Earthly sort creator that actually exists, in the form of a man...just guy, like me. I don't think he's a god, or have any infatuation with him, just a pure, real, live connection through music, and appreciation of his work that will say with me for the rest of our lives I'm sure. Having immersed myself in Pink Floyd for many a decade, I think I’ve seen the vast majority of videos of performances and interviews the band has given with the predominance of those interviews coming from Dave Gilmour and Roger Waters. It’s hard not to come away from any interview that Dave Gilmour has given without thinking:- ‘That man is a real gentleman’... he’s thoughtful, intelligent, forgiving, extremely talented and refreshingly gracious. As for Roger Waters? He’s thoughtful, intelligent, talented, vindictive, narcissistic, exceedingly greedy and thoroughly unreasonable. I don’t know if it was the fame, the money or just part of his character/personality that was responsible for his behaviour toward his bandmates that caused so much acrimony in years past. Whatever the reason, my generation [and several others] have been blessed with their music but it’s hard not to like Dave Gilmour, Richard Wright and Nick Mason but oh so easy to condemn Roger Waters for all the animosity and ill-feeling the band experienced for far too many years.

But it's 45 years after the Hippie scare, and these days the honor of escorting a famous celebrity musician like Gilmour is considerable, and - as Paul Stanley noted in his biographical book - it's better to cooperate with them AND you get to the gig much easier with a police escort with flashing lights!
