Had the privilege of being taught this workout in 8th grade about 10 years ago. Our weightlifting coach ended every class with a round of this and by the end of the year he gave us tshirts and extra credit if we finished it. Granted, I’m sure we were far from perfect push-ups but it was my introduction into mind over matter, hard work, and discipline. This was a fun reminder I’m gonna have to try it again. Great workout

I just broke my leg a month ago and had surgery. Can’t walk and I’ve watched 20lbs of muscle go away so fast. Been hard to be helpless and watch years of muscle leave my body. I start physical therapy in a week or so. Ready to hit it and get back better then before. Stay positive and remember everything happens for a reason even if we don’t understand it. The more they do it they easier it will get though. 11 times in a row straight is insane though, crazy. They must have really worked hard for that. So a mod for anyone interested: I did the challenge and made it to 1:30. I would have finished by going to my knees but was too tired to think of it. An hour later I went back and reversed the order (eg. went down when she said up) so that more of the tine is spent in high plank. Made it to the end, but it was tough and I didn’t have a lot left. Good way to do it for those without the Goggins fitness level.

David, its mental, I hear you go " It's longer this time" and the anticipation revs up. I need to maintain composure and rhythm. See you next week God willing. Ok 13 light, 16 full, 17 but sloppy, 15 light. Trying to focus on lower hold. Both rotators torn over the years, no excuses, just saying. Week four 17 -15- 20 !!! the first seventeen was the body, the last three the mind and 20 again. Looking forward to next week, 20 18 long 22 then 19 long, lost concentration. We'll see for this week. Week six 22 22 23 and 23. Need to focus, the sound stopping at19/20/21 gets to me. Week 7 - 20 long, 23, 23, 23. Week 8- 24,26,26,26. Videoed myself I need to clean up my form so we will see if I can maintain 20 plus next week Week 9 22,24,26, 15 (chest lowered to three inches from floor on this one) Week 10 - 15 with chest lower then 22,24 and 15 (split finger). Excelsior Week 11. missed one day due to minor injury. Then 22,24 and 24. Chest lowered to 3-5 inches from floor. I feel like I am getting close. Week 12 18,22,26,24 Week 13 24,26,23,19 very disappointing. Week 14 12/5/23-12/10/ 23 and victory! 30, 30, 30 and 30.14 weeks 56 attempts. Thanks to all for your support!

I couldn’t profess past 12-14 or so for ages then started practicing paused push ups to build strength after each attempt. I got stronger and proudly. Completed it. Been doing 30 “normal” push ups every morning for 7 years and working well. Walked Kokoda track in may and a bloke on the trek told me about this. Been doing it for 2 months and still can only get up to 24 press’s. My whole upper body already looks like I hit the gym every day. I’m a roofer so was fit already but this technique is old school good.

Been doing this classic for years - I keep coming back to it after not having done it in a year or so and then get obsessed with training to finish it, which usually takes a couple weeks of extra pushups and song attempts. If you haven't done it I massively recommend it, it's much harder than you'd think it would be. Another good one is the royal marine pushup test, which is just 60 pushups done with a pause at the top, done at a specific tempo (there are videos online that will have the sound for the tempo in them). Again it sounds easy but is surprisingly hard because of the static hold aspect. Nice to do these every month or so to keep up some muscular endurance in the shoulders/triceps/chest.

If anyone’s interested in the history of this song, it was actually a game played by slave children in the south if you listen to the words, it’s a squatting game bring Sally up meant you had to stand up bring Sally down you had to squat and hold that positionin the lyrics, you hear them say last ones to squat will tear the ground meaning they would have to go plow with the adults in the fields if they were the last one to squat try this with squatting it’s crazy hard

@@FIashOOT the lyrics they said are wrong, but the gist is correct. it's "Green Sally up". "tear the ground" is a reference to working the field also, but it's more of a jest than something that would actually happen as a result of losing the game, akin to "last one there's a rotten egg". all the kids would probably have to work the field, not just the loser
