David Jefferies Tribute

Tribute toDavid Jefferies, the much loved and well respected holder of the Isle of Man TT outright lap record, tragically died on May 29th, 2003, when he crashed at Crosby on the TT circuit during practice. The true cause of the accident will never be known and whether it could have been prevented or not will be always open for debate. But it is beyond doubt that DJ died doing what he enjoyed most, racing around the TT circuit at a level which is unlikely to be surpassed

hi have the honour of owning the last bike he rode before his tragic death. Its more than just a bike, its almost like davids soul is in it. Words can not describe how lucky i am to own such a bike. RIP david you last bike is safe with me.

i was lucky enough to meet this great guy & get his autograph when i was 8 or 9 ( now 14). I didnt even know who he was my dad just said to me " go get that man's autograph" " who is he?" i said he replied " just get it i will tell you later " my dad explained to me who he was & what an amazing rider he was & a ledgend, i followed him on the tv & in the papers, he became my hero... later that year he went and got killed... i came hme frm skl & saw he ws ded i cried & cried! GONE RIP

I was going to America on holiday when I saw someone in the seat in front reading the MCN saw the headlines and was absolutely gutted. DJ was someone very special to all off us. I never had the pleasure of speaking to him however you just got the feeling that he knew all the TT followers. If there is life after death DJ will be screaming around heaven on the limit with a massive smile on his face. The smile we remember every time his name is mentioned. thanks DJ Dannell

I met Dj at the NW200 just 2 weeks before he was killed and what an amazing bloke! 30 mins to go before racing starts and he's standing with me and my fiancee laughing and joking! Wonderful wonderful bloke! Cried my eyes out when i got the phone call! R.I.P Big man, ure still very much missed!!

No doubt, the guys on the TT are on a different level, think about how much GP dudes wipe and slide. No margin for error, those cobblestone walls don't give much. RIP DJ you rode to the edge. Only those that push the limits understand the need. When you are in the zone, nothing can go wrong. It was only a moment.

Too true, the accident happened on a very fast section, and it was incredible that JM managed to stop in time. DJ demolished a thick stone wall as well as the bus shelter before taking the telegraph pole down, he was doing 180 mph plus (very fast through the Glen Vine/Crosby section). You can still see where the wall was rebuilt and the flowers are there every year- makes you want to weep when you see them. If bike that blew up had had an oil catch tray...things would have been so differant.

The best rider I've ever seen round the tt. Gone to soon. The day before he died I said to my mates in sam webbs in Douglas "he will beat joeys record or die" sadly I was right in the wrong way. Rewrote the tt, just the bomb. The biggest idiot of them all. God bless you DJ.
