Sad news, RIP David Johnson.....gone too early, played for India as a young 25 year old in 1996-97 season. Also remember his golden ball to dismiss Sachin Tendulkar in 1996 challenger trophy (India domestic cricket) that bought him to selectors' limelight. Was a bright prospect from Karnataka, could have played more.

He made an impact in his short career that even 25 years after his last game for india many cricket fans from the 90’s recall his name with a smile. Raw pace and high energy. Sadly for reasons unknown he was not given enough chances at the highest level. Could his “issues” have been sorted out if some of the seniors persisted with him and helped him develop? Possibly. He needed an empowered leader around him. Ganguly or Dhoni would have got the best of him. Indian cricket in the 90’s didn’t have solid leadership just superstars. David would have done better a decade or so later in the IPL area. Be in peace David. May God give strength to the family. Hope the teammates who remember you today will help your family…

I still remember Johnson's spell against SA. He was aggressive, pacey and had all the batsmen looking uncomfortable. However, as was the norm those days, aggressive Indians were never accepted by the commentators, both Indian and others. There was some talk about "he does not know what he is doing" etc. regarding his aggressive approach. And then all of a sudden, he fell out of favor. Pacy and slingy, he would have been a force on English and Australian pitches.
