Dave Letterman always had Bobby and Jerry on doing little skits beforehand and his love for them and their music was apparent. It was a mutual respect you could tell as they were very comfortable and relaxed around each other. Thanks Dave for being the only real late nite talk show host to at that time receive them.

It was a nice tribute but in my humble opinion their songs were not played in a way that conveyed the spirit and happiness and beauty that endeared people to the Dead. The show's musicians preferred to stylize the music instead of playing it straight and for the most part the results seemed depressing. First time listeners we're going, "I don't get it", more than likely. But the Dead's members enjoyed it; a friend who was backstage said that Mickey Hart walked by and said to no one in particular, “I'm just trying to stay humble". So how cool is that?

@krisenger441017 күн бұрын
The Doors were finished by 1970 after Morrison died. Brian Wilson stopped touring with the Beach Boys in the mid-1960's, had a severe mental breakdown, and was often in sad shape when he returned later on. Santana probably played regularly throughout the 70's and 80's but he had a revolving cast of hired musicians, not really a steady band. So, what touring bands from California in the 1960's to the 1990's had a larger influence than the Dead? If you wanted to be able to consistently go see your favorite band live in concert near your town year after year on spring, summer, and/or fall tour, then it would certainly be hard to beat the Grateful Dead.
