Thank you for that. David Milne is one of the most important artists in Canadian history. If you know Canadian art, then that goes without saying, but most others do not. I am very grateful for Mr. Ian Dejardin for coming to Canada, and taking over the reigns of the McMichael Gallery. And not just taking up - but waving the torch of Canadian art high for everyone - including people outside Canada, to see. Our art history is perhaps shorter than many other countries, but no less unique and distinct. I know in Canada we like our heroes in our own image. They are often simply our neighbours, or someone we run into at the grocery store because they still do everything we do. But I think we need to stand firm and push forward to the rest of the world how great our artists have always been. Gone and see some of David's ( any any other major Canadian painters ) work in person, and tell me you can't be moved by it, or feel a great sense of pride when you see it.
