1 John 4:18 There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.

Love how he does not give any reassurance for does who left the path! He does not sugar coat it, but at the same time he speaks with love. Praise be the Lord for giving us men like him, men who stand with the bible! It is bittersweet to think he is no longer with us, but at least he has a front seat to the second coming! Happy are those who sleep in the the Lord!

Yes I agree with you. David Pawson is / was a great man of God who is dearly missed today. Lets hope he made it in - it would be a huge disappointment not to see him in heaven - especially after all he has done for the body of Christ. But we know God is good and will make room for someone like David. I just hope I am counted worthy enough to enter. I hope I've done enough / am doing enough 🙏

I like David's statement. "Good" when questioned about someone doubting. It's vital to be assured in Jesus and not settle for our works.

This is so true. It’s dangerous to teach people error even if we do it in ignorance. We will stand before God to receive the things done in the body whether good or bad. The context of 1Corinthians 3 is teaching wood, hay, and stubble and the warning is him who harms the church him will God destroy. The teaching of once saved always saved is wood hay and stubble and does great damage to the church. I trust that God is able to keep us from falling and that he is working in us helping us to want to do will however we must abide in him at all times, otherwise we will be cut out of the vine.

I love that he's not wishy washy. He does not cater to be accepted by the status quo. I've been so back and forth in obedience. I felt the fear of God in these places but the church always coddled me. God forgive me and help any unbelief and give me new desires to follow you completely .

Thank you Mr Pawson I agree with you on this. However, I have a big problem explaining 1 John 3:1-10: "No one who lives in him keeps on sinning. No one who continues to sin has either seen him or known him"; and in verse 9: "No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God’s seed remains in them; they cannot go on sinning, because they have been born of God". Doesn't this imply that whoever falls away was not a "in him" in the first place? For it says here: "they have not known him". This is the main defense for the 'once saved always saved' theory, at least the less radical version, that says we can be fooled into thinking we are saved when in fact we are not; therefore, test yourselves! So if someone is really saved, this person CANNOT keep on sinning; however, keeping on sinning is the sign you were never saved in the first place. This is very different from saying that someone who is really saved can lose salvation. Could you please explain this? Thank you and many blessings!!

@Mark Phillips thank you but I still don't feel I got an answer to this 1 John statement. John does say that "this (living in sin) is how we tell the children of God from the children of the devil". Quite a big statement to put into the context of losing true salvation (although I completely agree with you and Pawson in this). The only way I found to explain these verses is in the sense of "slavery to sin". If someone continues to sin because they are not free from sin, then the freedom granted by baptism (after repentance) described in Romans 6 does not apply to them. Therefore, they might still be children of the devil. That is, NOT YET saved. But I do not understand how one can condemn OSAS and not adress these verses in a clear way. They do seem to be a stumbling block for us who believe that TRUE salvation can be lost through perseverence in sin.

@Mark Phillips problem is, I can explain John 6 and Romans 9 to any Calvinist without any problems. I know how to make those passages fit into the greater picture, word by word. But I do not know HOW to do the same here. So my question to folks out there is this: "how do you, exactly, do the same with 1 John 3:1-10 within the context of OSAS impossibility?" Please only reply IF you have a specific answer to this question. Thanks!

@@manu75trex13 I think my understanding is in the word continue. Those verses in John that you mentioned use the word continue over and over again, those who CONTINUE in sin.... As though they are just continuing in the state of sin that they were in before they accepted christ. So you are right to say that these people did not really accept jesus and become saved. But it is not to say that beleivers will never ever sin. You can tell when a beleiver is truly a believer because they have not continued in the same state of continued sin as they were in before they came to christ. A believer can stumble at times and sin but we ask for forgiveness and put it right if we can and then we continue with the Lord not in the sin. So a believer can and will sin but we do not live in a state of continuous sin as an unbeliever does. That is my understanding anyway. The same with the Hebrews passages, those who live in willfull sin as oppose to the beleivers who don't want to sin but do stumble from time to time. Somwhere (i can't think where) it talks about unbelievers that reject the gospel because they love their sin too much and don't want to give it up, that is wilful sin, you could almost call it joyful sin. And if you are a true believer you will take no joy when you commit sin.

@@emilyturner2266 Thanks for the answer. I do agree with you that: 1) true believers stumble into sin from time to time and ask for forgiveness, and 2) Those who continue in a state of daily sin have probably never accepted Christ. My problem and my question here is: can a TRUE believer lose salvation, according to these verses in 1 John? Because verse 9 says bluntly: "they CANNOT go on sinning, because they have been born of God". My question is only this: can or CANNOT a born-again person with the seed of God keep on sinning and lose salvation? It also says in 1 John 3:1-10: "No one who lives in him keeps on sinning. No one who continues to sin has either seen him or known him". The first part is easy: it is our duty to abide in Him, the true vine, just as Jesus said. Some believers will abide in Him, others will choose not to. Salvation can be lost. But the second part is confusing to me. It claims that there is NO ONE who has known Him and then continues to sin. Soo... what about those who knew Him and chose not to abide in Him? It's like saying: "no one who continues on a diet ever gets fat. No one who continues to eat junk food has ever been on a diet". The two sentences are not mutually exclusive, are they?

@@manu75trex13 I see what your saying. I do believe a believer can loose thier salvation, but that is a tricky verse to wrap your head around your quite right! David's sermon on 1 John unlocking the bible series, may shed some light, he does touch on this subject in there but I was half asleep so I'm not certain it will answer your question! But give it a listen. I am going to re listen to it now. Later on in 1 John it talks about praying for fellow Christians that commit sin but don't pray for fellow beleivers that commit sin that leads to death. So it talks about sin that leads to death for fellow beleievers not fake beleivers. So it is a complicated issue. But it is clear that salvation can be lost in numerous passages, maybe it is meaning beware and take heed that you are not a fake believer! But then I would always be constantly worrying that maybe I'm a fake beleiver! Its difficult, I see your conundrum! Give it to the lord and ask him to bring you peace about it, its the only way. God bless!

Jud 1:5 I will therefore put you in REMEMBRANCE, though ye once knew this, how that the Lord, having SAVED the people out of the land of Egypt, afterward DESTROYED them that believed not. Rom 11:22 Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell, severity; but toward thee, goodness, IF THOU CONTINUE IN HIS GOODNESS: otherwise THOU ALSO SHALL BE CUT OFF.

He denies what Christ said he can do. No man snatching them out. Sealed unto the day of redemption. The parable of the Sower clearly explains who is going to heaven and not.

I dont believe David does deny what Christ can do - I have a different understanding of what the scriptures say please permit me to explain David teaches what Christ can do and has done - BUT its a personal choice we have to make - to believe or not believe …….if we consider what Christ has done on its own will everyone be saved or only a few ? and why only a few when Christ has done it all ! Christ has made it possible for all who believe to receive eternal life - but will everyone choose His way - the narrow road ? Rev 3:5 states The one who overcomes will be saved and his name will not be blotted out …… What we have here is a very serious statement of what happens to those who do not overcome temptation and persecution ? God is amazing he already planned for that 1 Cor 10:13 No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it. God has and will provide a way out! ….but we have to take that option when we face temptation - resist and overcome or fall ? accepting the way God provides may be painful and come with a cost but the reward is worth it Rev 22.19 a warning that if anyone takes words away …God “will take away “ Satan cannot snatch us but the Bible is clear - God can disqualify and take away ...... John 10:28 I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father's hand. That states clearly the Devil does not have the power to snatch away those who’s names are written in the Lambs book - but Paul was clear 1 Cor 9:27 ……….so that after I have preached to others I myself may not be disqualified for the prize What prize? - what had he been preaching to others about? - a race where there is only one winner - there is no prize for second, third - just one - the gift of eternal life What did Jesus teach ? Matthew 24:13 - those who endure to the end WILL be saved, Proverbs 3:5-7 Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him , and he will make your paths straight. Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD and shun evil Psalm 97:10 Let those who love the LORD hate evil, for he guards the lives of his faithful ones and delivers them from the hand of the wicked Its all about obeying his commandments, submitting to him and remaining faithful to Him … - > .to the end Of course you may choose to see this very differently

Romans 8:29-39 New International Version 29 For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. 30 And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified. More Than Conquerors 31 What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? 32 He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all-how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? 33 Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies. 34 Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died-more than that, who was raised to life-is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us. 35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? 36 As it is written: “For your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.”[a] 37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons,[b] neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
