The original lyrics say “ as He died to make men holy, let us DIE to make men free”. This was the song Union troops sang as they marched into battles during the American Civil War. I wish we had recordings of that, thousands of men, joined in purpose and voice, willing to die for their country and for the rights of fellow human beings, no matter their skin color. I get chills just thinking about it, this is a great song.

I was just about to add a similar comment. I love David’s singing, but I wish they hadn’t changed the lyrics. It was the rallying cry that made sense to a senseless time. It honored the cause that all men were created equal and free, and freedom was worth dying for. I tear up waiting on that last verse. The new lyrics give a sweet meaning but that one word difference changes it too much for me. Maybe I’m a purist but what the lyricist wrote is what the song is about.

One of the things I love most about David is how his voice can punch right through a wall of music being sung and then just float around above it so effortlessly. (Think "Alpha and Omega" as well.) I always see that glorious voice as a ray of sunshine bursting through the clouds--and I'll never, ever be able to get enough of it

Squire is a Southern Gospel OG. Amazing songwriter, singer, and musician. That man is truly anointed.

David Phelps is one of my absolute favorite Gospel singers. Squire Parsons has been a Southern Gospel singer-songwriter since the late 70s. The first song he wrote was "Beulah Land" and it became his signature song. He has written several other well known songs in Gospel music genre. He has a great baritone voice. He has since retired from touring and singing.

I miss all of the old Homecoming concerts and all of the old time members who have long passed on. This was very early in David's tenure as a member of the GVB, but you already see so many of the choir either shaking their heads in amazement or beaming with amazement. Thanks Lyle for another wonderful reaction.

When one person or a group of people sings a hymn or like a new song that you haven't heard before and it really hits you spiritually, you raise your hands with tears in your eyes and there's just no words to say because you're in the spirit feeling it's greatness. It stays with you the whole day through.

Hey can you react you a video on Clap It Up Dan's channel; it's 22 times Tim Foust went subharmonic. Also could you possibly react to a singer known as Shawn James. He's an amazing singer, yet no one reacts to him (except maybe one person). He's a bluesy folky singer and I'd think you would just love him. You should either start with his gaslight session cover of "who did that to you" (if you want to hear his growly blues beastliness) or his switzerland outside live performance of "midnight dove" (if you want to be lulled by an angel). I really super duper hope more people react to Shawn James. I also really want to see you go crazy over Tim's subharmonics. Please please please. Thank you.
