"How Great Thou Art" is hard for me to sing/listen to as it was sung at my parents and grandparents funerals. I grew up with the "original" version, but then I heard David. It made me think....why is this song sung at so many funerals. I listened closer to the words and I don't hear sorrow, but rejoicing in God and all He has made and His love for us by having His Son die on the cross so that we may have eternal life. It's joyful and I love it!

I agree with you 100% David's version of this song is just transcendent! And even though you can here he obviously needs a drink of water during the song he powers through it so well and still knocks your socks off lol.

Lyle - Wanted to share a list I made of 30 favorite songs David has recorded that he WROTE or CO-WROTE to save you some research time if you are interested. I have 3 other lists of songs featuring him in the various Gaither Vocal Bands written by Bill & Gloria Gaither & then two written by others if you are interested (just comment back). Here they are in alphabetical order (I added * on those you have already reacted to): Angus Dei, The Dream*, End of the Beginning*, End of the line, Fall on your knees*, Fly again*, Fly to you, Gentle Savior, Ghost Town (Freedom), Holy Sanctus*, I'm coming home*, If Christmas never came, Just as I am*, Joy Joy to the world*, Let the Glory come down, Last night on earth, Live like a king, Love goes on (the one where he plays the piano), My child is coming home, One King, One wintry night, The Singer (the one where O come O come Emmanuel leads in), Virtuoso (the reprise version), What I need is you, Your love*, Your time will come. Lyrics only: Moonlight*, On heaven's shore Music only: Water*, You can dream. Love your reactions to him! He has been my favorite singer for 21 years & I've seen him in concert about 15 times (because we are both from Texas!!).

Lol, should give me a few ideas.
@lhillen57293 жыл бұрын
@@PatrolNation Lyle - Yes, it should come in handy for you in future, lol! Actually, you should save it for reference because it is VERY difficult to find which of his songs he wrote himself except when using all his CD liners or searching the internet for the sheet music. He has written about 20 more that I did not list b/c they are not my favorites and I compiled these lists a while back for my own use. His music degree from Baylor University in Waco, TX seems to have really benefited him. His orchestration on songs like The Dream, Holy Sanctus and others are really great, so I think it's worth knowing the songs he composed himself. Hope you agree!

Hey Lyle, how about reacting to "Live Like a King" and maybe "Virtuoso-Reprise" which is the slower version? Those are 2 of my many favs! Near the end of "Live Like a King", David sings the best "big note into a run" in gospel music history! Thanks for all your videos and we're all looking forward to next week!

How Great Thou Art Beautiful and powerful hymns of all times. But I have to say, as much as I love David Phelps this is not and arrangement That I enjoy. This song should be sung in reverence for the Almighty.
@greeneyes920613 жыл бұрын
Nope, nope, nope this too contemporary. How Great Thou Art is not a contemporary song nor should it be sung that way. I am just as big a David Phelps fan as anyone, but this is just wrong. Call me old, call me stuffy, call me boring. This song should be sung with reverence and respect, it does not need “bounce”…….this “version” is a performance. There are those sings& hymns that should be sung as originally written…..this is definitely one of them. Definitely not for me, cannot hang around the second go round.
