He is classically trained. When he was studying in college, he was told that he could be wildly successful in both the opera realm and on Broadway, but he wanted to sing Christian music. He sang with the Gaither Vocal Band for years and also has a successful solo career.

You articulated what makes David such a good singer and soloist in a way that helps me know why I've found him to be extraordinary over many years. I've studied voice classically as a tenor and can demonstrate resonance but your reaction video to someone else's "most resonant" brings it all together for me. Without exception, most of his singing has been live performances every night. As a member of a touring quartet until recently, he was expected to hit ridiculous high notes on a number of signature songs. He can sustain notes I will never be able to hit. He can do it over a 2 hour concert and a 2 month tour which makes him extraordinary. That he can do that and sound that good sustaining the belt and releasing with a controlled vibrato makes him other worldly....perhaps "of God." When introducing someone to his skill, I often make them listen to O Holy Night; a song destroyed by so many sopranos and tenors. It might be July but we're going to "react" in my living room based on a classic everyone knows. He beautifully sings two lyric verses without any belt or strain. Then he modulates unexpectedly shifting the range and the power in his voice. Ending a night that is Holy but not particularly Silent. I watched your video fully expecting you to not hear him as special. Instead, you gave me words and confirmation that I'm not imagining his uniqueness.

Btw I love watching actual singers like you and ThatSingerReactions because you actually know what you’re talking about. I’m a violinist and I was in chorus for a year. My mom has some classical training. Loy Yup, you're right. Thank god finally who knows how to analyze tone. Lara is one of the very few singers who can boost her voice with 1000 hz to 2000 hz... That's why her voice sound like a big horn. When you're able to belt loudly at 1000 hz, you are deafening listener's ear with a horn.

He is a Baylor college trained also music theory I believe is his minor......and that guy who was starring at David singing in disbelief? He does that every single time that David would sing with the Homecoming group which is a Bill Gaither (southern gospel) group. Filled with singers from the early days of radio (Early Homecoming shows, out on DVD or you can see them all, and all of David's videos and much much more on Gaither TV for $5. a month) Anyways that man is J.D. Sumner's son. J.D. not only holds the world record for singing the lowest note known to man but he also was in Elvis Presley's backup back in the day........David came along almost fresh out of college and he was discovered by Mark Lowry who also, at that time, sang with the Gaither Vocal Band. Those other men you see David singing with? All members of the GVB over the years. He got back with them a couple of weeks ago for a reunion, the dvd will be out soon if not already. David is as comfortable singing harmony with the guys as he is singing classical music or gospel or secular music, he has a few of those albums out too. He sang with his sister who has passed away now, you see her singing back up for him in one of your frames there. There is no one like David but he is blessed by God. David is a christian and is married to his biggest champion, his college sweetheart and together they manage David's career over the years.

No, I wouldn't say he is losing talent. He has changed his singing style to adjust to getting older but he is just as good as he ever was just in a different way. He can still hit some pretty high notes with a lot of power for a tenor in his late forties. Now that's talent!
