David Ruffin is a "Soul Singer"!!! Not by the genre of music, but the source of his voice… He cried, he prayed, he raged and he soothed with his voice…. To me David's voice is like Silk and Sandpaper drizzled with honey and hot butter… Sing In Peace King!!!

To one of the greatest (r&b ,soul) singers of the 21st century. What separates David Ruffin is the fact that he was the total package. He could deliver a song from the depths of his soul. He had incredible showmanship and style. He could carry a complete show by himself. This man was the ultimate superstar whose musical career was obviously derailed by Motown shelving some of his projects and compounded by his personal struggles. "A man's accomplishments far outweigh his past misdeeds ". May God be pleased!

You are so right look Berry Gordy did he could have release his music, I feel like Barry should have got David help because he had a very bad addiction when a person has a drug problem they need someone to care enough to help them and remind them how they were before drugs and say don't let drugs destroy you its like they saw him at the end of life Cliff no one care enough to help him I no he was grown man, don't look don't on a man until you are picking them up. Sometimes we all need help from other because what they see we sometimes don't see we are suppose to help each other to make this world a better place. Love each other not throw stones. I am 57 years old. I've been in the business for almost 40 years. I see all of the "old heads" in the comment section asking " Why can't we have singers Like this today"? Well, the answer is we do have singers like this today. There is Anthony Hamilton, Leon Bridges, Bilal, Raphael Saadiq, The Hamiltones and countless others. "Leave the Door Open" by Bruno Mars and Anderson Pak will never have the soul "intensity" of a David Ruffin. Doesn't matter. The song is Number #1. Some of ya'll will go on to say "Well Bruno can never be a David Ruffin". He doesn't have to be. He wasn't meant to be. There was only one David Ruffin and he's sleep. Some of ya'll are so caught up in the past with the newer artists "have to sound like the David Ruffins and Al Greens and Smokey Robinson's that you totally miss what the young artists of today offer. Also, technology has changed. The way we make records and music has changed. If David Ruffin was around today he wouldn't be making music like this. He would be making the music of today with HIS soulful vocals on it. Listen to Walk away From Love and this song and they are drastically different even being only 6 years apart. The MP3 format was introduced in 1997 and popularized by Apple’s iPod in 2001. The platforms completely changed and,, it changed everything. The sample rate of an MP3 is 23,000 compressed samples per second, half the sample rate of a commercial CD and a quarter of the sample rate of a studio-quality digital recording. The introduction of the MP3 made CD and record collections obsolete. You could store your entire CD collection on your iPod and later iPad. Technology changed. The Business changed. Free downloading became the way to obtain music as music stores began to disappear across North America. And some of ya'll have to realize that SOUL has changed. It's always changing. Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Al Green, Bill Withers, Ronald Isley,, and Bobby Womack, and other key soul singers of the era had created a new church for ‘70s African-Americans, one in which the singer embodied many roles: philanderer, hustler, and outcast, but also a philosopher and, above all, preacher. Soul music began to fade in popularity amid the rise of disco in the late ‘70s, and though there have been several key practitioners since - including Luther Vandross, Mary J Blige, and D’Angelo - the connection to the circumstances that led to its creation in the first place barely resonate with new generations of artists and fans and they will remain as touchstones for new generations to draw inspiration, but the circumstances that created them can’t be replicated. People are also hypocrites. You want to drive the latest vehicles with the latest "toys" and want the latest" phones" and will utilize the latest appliances and everything with the latest technology but you call yourself "old school". Yeah okay.

The name of the first song is "I Could Never Love Another (After Loving You)" and this is the first time I ever seen or heard him sing it live! (Dennis Edwards did an excellent job on it on "The Temptations At The Copa" - available on KZbin. It is interesting to hear him do both songs with minimum accompaniment. (You can hear him sing "You'll Lose A Precious Love" with The Temptations of The Temptations Live! at the Roostertail. Also on KZbin). This must have been in 1969, right after he left The Tempts and around the same time as he did the concert that made the basis for the movie "Summer of Soul ."

The only thing that exists is a compilation of various performers: David Ruffin, Gladys Knight, Sly and the Family Stone, Curtis Mayfield and more. Most of the clips are abbreviated performances.
