The score looks relatively simple on paper and is deceptively easy to learn. But to turn this melody into poetry, with the dynamics, the sensitive ritardandos, the variety of tone produced with the right hand and so on...: all this is very difficult indeed. It asks for technical prowess and 'feeling', and Rusell has both. This is a masterful rendering of this beautiful piece.

Russell Davis did a masterclass for my school one time and he said himself that this was one of the most difficult pieces to play when asked why he said "it is not a virtuosic piece when it comes to technique however when it comes to the delivery of the piece one needs to be a virtuoso to truly display it's feeling and that is a difficulty many people don't understand or try to show"

I've heard recordings of Reis himself play this and it sounds quite a bit less classicaly romantic than Mr Russell's interpretation. Pluss Reis played Steel strings which of course makes a big difference. I love Mr Russell's take on it and I dare say he has contributed a great deal to Reis's music still be widely played and listened to today. He composed some great pieces for guitar and he deserves to be well remembered like this.

This song shows so little, yet so much. It shows understanding of music, experience of interpretations, and love for music. A musica clássica nunca foi popular, e não sei que período clássico é esse que se refere, por favor me oriente cronologicamente :) O choro brasileiro foi elitizado elitizaram, pois era comum nos botecos do Rio de Janeiro, no meio de cerveja e gargalhada suburbana. O violão - um plebeu, devasso, já o piano pertencia as elites, nobres e classes mais abastadas como bem disse Raphael Rabelo.

I love this piece, it's the kind of romantic song the guitar was made for. I also play it regularly. I agree with what you say about the intro, it is not on the sheet music I have for this piece. There is a video of the composer playing the piece which I'm just going to take a look at.
