Thank you Dave for featuring my music! I'm the artist, Bzaurie, from which David wished to use my track The Invisible Library during the last part of the video. I'm grateful for the exposure and Dave's insistance to make fair payment as well.

The uncut way he does the videos makes it seem like he's actually talking to me. It makes me feel impolite when I pause the video like I'm interrupting him.

The first page of the book (21:15) kinda reminds me of the Avatar title cards... It's crazy that someone from Finland brought back to life a font that had only been used in a single collection of Japanese books a hundred years ago. Magical times, these

Another thing to love Dave is he dislikes the concept of "For exposure only"'. As mentioned in his Twitch streams, he gives credits and even pays people who aided his and his company's works which in this case, Markku and Bzaurie aka. Lazerflikflorg (the guys who worked on the Hasegawa font & the composer of the BGM during the book montage respectively).
@thaDjMauz5 жыл бұрын
Hey, thanks for mentioning me, but Markku is unrelated to lazerflikflorg (my twitch handle) and Bzaurie (my musical alias). I havent had any contact with Markku. But you are correct. Thought I would be happy with Dave just using my music he insisted on paying me and spoke about it a lot in his streams.

After happening upon your channel about a week ago via my youtube recommended page, I've been binge-watching all of your videos. Your passion and enthusiasm for this topic is infectious! I knew next to nothing about Japanese art history (or Japanese art forms in general) before finding your channel, and can now say that I'm eagerly awaiting any and all future uploads!

Some famous musical artists recorded tracks for albums in a bathroom, specifically for the reverb that you’re getting here, so you’re not so much “escaping” the rest of building as you are cementing your legacy as an artistic powerhouse

This is sooooo awesome! I distinctly remember surfing the internet for an exact font like this: Something that applied the japanese brush sensibility to the roman style type without it looking like a caricature or the title card of a ninja show. This is such a superb work! As a type geek, i take my hat off to Markku for pulling off the greatest font revival of 2019!

Just last week I purchased a three volume set of Sword & Blossom poems. The set is originals and came in a blue binder which is held shut with two little ivory pegs. They are in superb condition for the age. I was looking for information about these books when I came across your video. What a surprise. I guess I don’t have bad taste after all.

I love how Dave's voice sounds like it came from heaven when he reads the last poem, but after watching his TWITCH streams where he mentioned the actual process when he recorded that audio, I can't help but giggle a bit now that I have the mental image of Dave squatting inside the bathroom with the lights turned off and his laptop placed on top of the toilet seat.

Great video! In the previous video You said that there were also book in Russian. I use the Russian alphabet or cyrillic almost daily. I wonder, if it would be possible to have a Hasegawa Russian font?
@marumuju5 жыл бұрын
Sadly, I think the Russian version of the book doesn't use the brush alphabet, so I would have to make up with the letters by myself… That would definitely be "interesting", since I can't read Cyrillic at all. But perhaps some day!

I wish you had not thrown away the line where you tell us, "...replaced by....something ...gafaw". If you spoke English, I didn't understand a word of it. I still have a keen interest in the books you are showing and the poems inside them, which you are just flipping past...I hope you get around to showing all the pages with those beautiful woodblock prints. The way the Japanese Craftsmen work is fascinating to me, as no one here has quite the same approach.

Is there a lot of embossing. It seems to have quit a bit.
@seseragistudio5 жыл бұрын
The book is made with a rich and thick 'hosho' paper. What you are seeing is the natural 'embossing' that thus results when the paper is pressed down over the woodblock where the characters are carved.
