Voyeur Review from AllMusic by Scott Yanow
This 1980 recording is an excellent example of David Sanborn's music. The highly influential altoist is joined by familiar studio veterans (including guitarist Hiram Bullock and drummer Steve Gadd) with bassist/composer Marcus Miller being a key figure in creating the funky rhythms and colorful backgrounds. Miller, who shared the writing chores with Sanborn, not only contributed his powerful bass, but backed the altoist during a duet version of "Just for You" on piano. Easily recommended to fans of R&B-ish jazz.
....................................
The recording won the 1982 Grammy Award for Best R&B Instrumental Performance for the track "All I Need is You". This was the first of seven Grammy Awards that have been achieved by the saxophonist to date. Buzz Feiten, riding high with the Larsen-Feiten Band at the time, adds his distinctive guitar tone to Let's Just Say Goodbye.

This was my jam back in the day! What a time it was. I knew back then Dave would be a force in the music world. His TV show back in the day featured so many great artists that never would have got mainstream exposure. Dave had the sound. Rest in Power Dave Sanborn.

My first introduction to smooth jazz and Marcus Miller. David was and always will be remembered by his influence in this legendary thing we call jazz and smooth jazz. This album was so fire 🔥

Please, please do not call this smooth jazz.Smooth jazz is elevator music. Bland and generic. This is JAZZ FUSION. When David Sanborn first came out with solo albums, I had already been following his work on CTI Records, where many jazz fusion artists I listen to got their first start including Bob James, George Benson and others. Many of these artists were session players in New York and Los Angeles. I think it's demeaning to call them smooth jazz. I'm sorry it's just a designation I don't like. Because most of the artists that were smooth jazz we're not session players. Did not cut their teeth in the New York and LA studio session scene, doing everything musically, from Toyota commercials to soundtracks of movies. Like Lee Ritenour or Larry Carlton or so many other jazz-fusion artists, David Sanborn had a long history of appearing on a variety of other artists records, movie soundtracks and many TV commercials; he was well known on the session circuit. So, to lump him in with smooth jazz guys like Kenny G or the Rippingtons or something I think diminishes his legacy and talent.. and I think David Sanborn, if asked, would tell you the same thing. My feeling is sadly that smooth jazz ruined what came to be known as jazz fusion music, in the same way disco sort of tainted authentic R&B music. It's my own opinion but I have spent time in Show Business myself as a Radio show host so I might know a thing or two about this subject. You have a right to your opinion, however. But I think smooth jazz was responsible for taking the teeth out of some of our favorite music. So, in summation David Sanborn was NOT smooth jazz. Sorry. Not even close.

Had this on vinyl, played it constantly. It changed my idea of what jazz could be, and did so for a lot of other people when it came out. DS evolved too, technically, soulfully and stylistically as subsequently appeared. Always quality, yet always recognisably him playing his alto. This, in my mind is the platinum standard DS album, and Mr Miller too, solid as a very solid, soulful thang! Thnx for all the great stuff. RIP David Sanborn.🎶🎵🎷
