🎶🎷 DAVID SANBORN ~ Rest In Paradise 🎷🎶 So saddened to learn of David’s passing yesterday from prostate cancer. He was one of my favorite saxophonists having grown up with three brothers and a sister who all played sax. Here is my all-time favorite Sanborn tune which holds cherished memories for me. Thank you, David for your musical legacy that will live on! (May 13, 2024) 🕊️

Who's left of his caliber? I remember driving in the dark through the mountains with the top down on my car in the late 80's to my parent's house 375 miles away listening to this album. Hearing this takes me back to the chill of the mountain air.

After years of only listening to your music on cassette tape I finally got the honor and privilege of attending the clearwater jazz festival in 2008. Words will never suffice to express my awe and gratitude for your gift to the world. I've loved your music since the 80's. Rest in peace my dear brother. Your music will live on in the hearts of all us who will always love you. My condolences to your family and the hundreds, if not millions of fans and collaborators who I'm certain grieve your passing ........ thank you for pushing me to always strive for excellence...thank you for the gift you left us.....😢😢😢😢😢😢

I'll admit to this being one of my favorite David Sanborn songs, so exquisitely performed and I'll also admit to though being a longtime lover of math and science as a now retired pediatrician, but my first love, passion was for instrumental music as an alto, tenor and baritone sax player until I had to set it aside for the lack of adequate time! I just so love all things music and after having to retire from medicine due to a stroke that has left me minus 40 or so million neurons, brain cells and therefore technically permanently disabled; I'm so very much thankful to be alive though and so thankful to have revealed to me this rare compensatory autonomic sensory neurologic phenomenon when listening to certain superbly played songs, in that I experience these tunes by not just audibly hearing them but experiencing them in a full body somewhat symbiotic experience in that I feel the notes all over my body accompanied by a soothing mild warmth, tingling throughout my body and a brain euphoric state of mind! Wow, I'm so blessed!!!

GOD BLESS YOU!!! I will pray to OUR LORD AND SAVIOR, CHRIST JESUS, for the miracle of healing for you, as HE is capable, indeed!!! Until then, I pray for your continued blessing of the profound effect that superb music and musicianship has on you. Trust me, I know the effect that David Sanborn had on my friend and I, who attended the Jacksonville Jazz Festival 2023 just this past Memoral Day weekend on Saturday evening. His performance was SURREAL. We actually both cried during the concert. He was EXCELLENT!!!

The saddest news I heard was that Hiram had died. Christ, it brings a tear to my eyes just thinking of it. I was privileged to see David Sanborn play at Hammersmith Odeon in the mid 1980s and it was simply the best gig I have ever been too. David was brilliant and Hiram was just incredible. The ultimate showman. RIP Hiram and thanks to you and David and Marcus for such great memories.

When I hear David Sanborn play those light notes, all these dynamics from quiet to loud, the push/pull tempo totally intentional. I realize that even if I could play my guitar like I wish I could in my imagination (no limits to my technique), I wouldn't have such an amazing instinct and feel. What a master.
