I had a conversation with David Sedaris once about his appearances on Letterman. This was circa 2003 before I got to introduce him at one of his readings. He told me about his first time meeting Dave. I recall him saying that Dave brought him into his office where one of Sedaris' books was on the desk. Dave then went through several pages, pointing out joke after joke and asking Sedaris, "How did you come up with this one?" It struck me as a really cool salute. Game recognizing game kind of thing. It was definitely a moment I won't forget: Insight from one of my favorite writers about my all-time favorite show.

Me Talk Pretty One Day was the first audiobook I purchased back in the day when they came on half a dozen CDs.

I first learned of sedaris when he read passages of me talk pretty on NPR. Blew my mind. I pictured in my mind a woody Allen type. One thing is for sure, the sedaris siblings were some of the greatest guests of Letterman.

I remember watching this episode when it first aired. Bought that book and most other of David's works soon after. What a killer appearance.

I don't think I have laughed more at a #Letterman posted KZbin video than this. I knew Amy had a brother but I had never seen him on tv before. Thanks team Letterman.

The audience laughs like he's joking about the healthcare costs in France, but he's not lying. That's the way it is.

His style of humor reminds me very much of my best friend Flash. His books are very similar in style and type of humor to the book Welcome To The Crumple Zone by Flash qFiasco.

The only other comedian who did late night that was also great with writers was Craig Ferguson. Maybe it was the same sensibility that made Dave a backer. That's also probably why they are the only guys whose shows I rewatch.

Strangely enough, though, they translated his books into French, and the French HATE him! Lol. Quote: he's no Jerry lewis. Another quote: Too much Dean, not enough Jerry! Lol
