Regardless of China's lack of interest in participating in international clubs or making firm allies, they are still a leading world power. Their initiatives such as building highways in foreign countries in exchange permission to be in that country (along with other things) is not one to ignore. They are making moves that are going to set them up for power in the long run that other countries need to either watch for or learn from.

Chinese electric buses are exported to Germany and Hon Kong already. And this guy is saying Chinese innovations are weak~ Even Germans themselves couldn't make high-power low noise buses that nice, and at a low price too~

This is very interesting. We were assigned to watch this video for my college Chinese course and I found it quite contradictory to my previous perceptions of China as a global power (as implemented by previous hight school Chinese teachers).

ODI, again, is this really so shocking that Scandinavian states, Australia and Japan, where GDP per capita is more or less 60 thousand rank higher in comparison to China with its 6 thousand per capita GDP? Can't you wait till they get rich to give more to others? It's like you would tell Bill Gates when he had started Microsoft that he should give away as plenty as now.

There is no Chinese director in one of the UN's major agencies, there is no UN's agency headquarters in any Chinese city. And, what is most important, according to IMF China's GDP per capita in 2012 was 8 times lower than US, but it's UN contribution 4 times lower. Of course, this needs some more sophisticated equation to be honest, but, anyway, what was your argument about Chinese contribution to UN, Mr Shambaugh?

China does not have intention to rule anyone at all. Chinese really enjoy being busy with themselves, really no interest in ruling/influence others, most Chinese people has very limited experience and knowledge about outside world, even if they do they are just not interested. 99% of Chinese only eat Chinese food, we do not expect other nationalities to eat Chinese; 99% of Chinese believe in money, but we respect people who doesn't, christian or muslim are all equally respected.Chinese are not Europeans or Americans, walk into your backyard, telling you what to do, which god you should worship and what language you should talk! No, Chinese don't like that at all, we prefer the people who they are. China does not like to be pushed into superpower, or forming some US vs China bilateral world, no, China wants multilateral, EU, Russia, Japan whatever the more the better to mediate in conflicts, and just leave China alone. Chinese are happy and busy only about themselves. Chinese goes to build projects in Africa because we don't have work enough in China, we don't want to go to Africa, it's not a strategical thing, Chinese workers cannot eat African food, they hate actually being in a foreign environment; Chinese buy resource from Australia because we don't have them anymore. All these activities are based on survival not taking over.We have neither asked Africans to talk Chinese nor Aussies to eat Chinese and will never.

The Chinese government tells Muslim Uighur lawyer families to not wear burqas or grow long beards. uk.reuters.com/article/2013/11/13/uk-china-xinjiang-idUKBRE9AC0FG20131113 Chinese government bans Falun Gong practitioners. Chinese government bullies foreign companies. www.reuters.com/article/2013/12/12/us-china-cctv-insight-idUSBRE9BB17A20131212 China's only foreign friend is North Korea. Everyone else distrusts China. China imposes one language in its schools. China has established over 400 Confucius Institutes and 600 Confucius Classrooms to spread Chinese influence.

bjorntsui The Belgian government already banned muslim women wearing burgas years ago, legally, your children cannot go to school like that, in certain part of Germany if you do, someone will cut your throat open; The US government slaughtered children and women with agent orange in Vietnam , raised terrorists in the 80s, and order notorious attacks on its own people while shooting Iraqi and Afghan children and women with machine guns for amusement; The British use to make fortune by selling drugs through Eastern Indian corporation all over the world. Come on, we don't talk about governments, no one likes their governments (politics), we only care about people. Governments are evil, even you have parlament, elections, do they ask you how much tax would you like to pay? what did they do with it? Can I release a demon from prison? it's just a cover, still the same dictatorship, the only difference is politicians are not liable of what they do anymore since they are 'elected'. You see, democracy is the highest level of dictatorship that makes a young man feel better.

Time to remember Churchill comment on Russia and do likewise with China. If any nation acts like bully, the global community should react with containment with punishment..

China has a lot of development, but I am curious if their power will ever be stunted by the U.S. when their growth becomes more of a threat than an asset.

Language is a problem ...great insights there...how could a nation develop soft power when it's official language is full of words of similar pronunciation even they have very different meanings . The idea behind the language is not to speak one's mind nor to present different viewpoints thus contributing nothing to better understanding of the issues at hand. Instead the language is good for shouting slogans and singing praise to whoever in power at the moment...
