David Suchet sets out to establish what connects three of the world's major religions - and critically what divides them - as he travels the world on a personal pilgrimage of discovery.
Judaism, Islam and Christianity share far more in common than the abhorrent acts of extremists would ever suggest. When the roots of the three Abrahamic faiths are shared, why is it that they foster dissent, intolerance and disagreement? What unites them and what divides them? Is God a warmonger or a peacemaker? Why do some believers commit violence in God's name?

It never ceases to amaze me that the fact that so many people get things wrong leads people to believe there is no “right”. The most difficulty arises when man, in his pride, believes he knows what is right and applies his own standard to the Word God rather than seeking to know God and what he says. This doesn’t automatically answer the question of which view right but you can at least begin to acknowledge that “right” exists and that God is its source.

At the end of the video, David Suchet says: "I've come away from making this program, really questioning the validity of organized religion and religion with power. I think it's a very, very dangerous thing". I wholeheartedly agree!

He's right in that the power of a religious system can be the most dangerous thing for a human being, and can keep them from finding the salvation of God in the person of Jesus Christ.

Following Jesus is a relationship not a religion, in contrast to having a religious spirit which, as it is dark, will always oppose a genuine move of God (ask Wesley!).

Quakers tries to offer a solution around the issues of power and dogma in organised religion, however it is still flawed because it's too open and people can just pick and mix whatever it is they want to believe in which isn't helpful either. Humans are flawed, we are sinners and whatever we try to come up with is not going to be perfect. The only way around this is to cultivate the ability to listen attentively so that we can seek understanding of the other.

I do really appreciate David Suchet as an actor. But when it comes to religions, he should think twice before making comments. Unlike what some seem to believe, there's nothing such as "Abrahamic religions". Indeed, Judaism doesn't start with Abraham. Same with Christianity. As for Islam, its supporters claim it began with Adam, the first Muslim. One should not actually talk about Abraham's religion but about Abraham's faith, which is more accurate since he followed no religion. He only answered the call of the Lord and did abide by Him before even Judaïsm appeared and the Scriptures fixed the metaphysical and experience of the Hebrews. The only reason the gullible ones or the snobs talk about "Abrahamic religions" roots in Islamic propaganda according to which Abraham is the ancestor of the Arabs through Ismael. No matter the latter was born to an Egyptian mother and not an Arab and was himself married to an Egyptian, not an Arab. No matter if there already were Arabs in the time of Abraham... The Muslim Arabs did so in order to have their own ideological wagon attached to the biblical train and therefore impose the dogma stating they too worship the Living God and must be considered as legitimate depositaries of the Revelation, all the most so they are those who received God's ultimate message which restored His true commandments corrupted by the Jews and the Christians and their falsified books and cult. Judaïsm speaks about the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob but never refers to their faith as an Abrahamic thing. Christianity also never refers to the Alliance as an Abrahamic stuff. So don't let the fools fool you on this issue.

Maybe not in doctrine, but it does in history. Christianity comes from Abraham through Izak and eventually Jesus. Islam comes from Abraham through Ishmael, Izak's half-brother. Jesus is even in the Qu'ran(?).

No way. Ibrahim and Issa are fictional characters created by Bedouins so as to artificially have their fabricated ideology linked to the Bible. There is strictly no common point between Jesus the Son of God and Issa ibn Mariam. Islam originates in deception.

A great number of adherents to Christianity, however, do quote extensively from the Old Testament. Christianity is a religion created by Christians (the clue is in the name) that is distinct from the nature of heart faith and loyalty to Jesus Christ.

Mr Suchet is an intelligent, thoughtful, and sincere guy, as his other religious documentaries show, but this sadly is veering toward banality. I guess you can see which view audible (aka amazon's brave new world wished to promote! :) He notes the divisions leading to thousands of denominations, "dogma/doctrine are bad, and lead to antagonism/hostility"...so the solution is to be *against* organized religion? Which by implication, means being *for* purely subjective religion? Which just means: even more doctrine (each person has their own), even more divisions (each person is a denomination unto themselves), and a different *kind* of abuses of power about role of religion (e.g. see French laicite - where all religion must remain in private sphere...which itself is a religious Point Of View, though feigned as "neutrality"..."we the enlightened declare these to be purely private matters") which is impossible given the nature of the issues religion claims to address. (e.g. life, death, communal vs individual goods, dignity of individual in our day because of his/her dignity and responsibility before God, who is his/her creator and judge). About what does Mr Suchet suggest we are to be unified in this post-organized-religion future? What evidence in recent history makes this appear a more unifying instead of divisive scenario? Yes to the power part though - faith must to be voluntary. US 1st amendment freedom is best balance, if (IF!:) a limited government role is maintained.* "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof" ...meaning don't establish a National Church, and also don't restrict the free exercise. Free exercise is more than private worship (freedom to worship) - a religious conscience must be able to act in public, not just in private. *The gov't needs to respect it's limits too, not be enforcer of secularity. This has worked well for past 200 years, variety of denomiations side by side in USA towns, compared to Ireland/Northern Ireland troubles, etc...but the next 30 years don't look promising for free exercise in USA. See Canada for example. And not just on abortion/SSM...

If they all disagree this may be a "hint" that they are NOT related. If Christians want to attach themselves to Judaism, and then Islam WANTS to attach themselves to both of the earlier doesn't mean they ARE attached. Being just s story and trying to attach yourself to another dubios story to give yourself "cred", shows how unsure of yourslf you are, or worried your acceptance will be as a stand alone "truth" I'm an atheist but I can understand a Jewish point of view that says to the others "fuck off, you have no right to take our history and call it your own just because you say it is". From my point of view that is misappropriation of anothers property, Oh well...live by the myth... suffer offence by the myth.

What went wrong is who the seed of Abraham was and is, it’s Jesus Christ the Messiah, who became the sacrifice for the sins of man and justifies the ungodly through his resurrection! Salvation is the gift of God, not by works but by grace alone. If we could have earned it or God just swept mankind’s sins under the rug, Christ would not of had to fulfill prophecy and died for the sins of man. Salvation is of the Lord! He left his glory and humbled himself for the excruciating death on the cross and literally became sin for us, to those who believe and receive Jesus and his promised gift of paradise, in a perfect state with him forever. Greater love has no man then this, that a man lay down his life for his friends, but we know that Christ laid down his life for us while we were his enemies, in order to purchase us by his blood and woo us to himself, forevermore. One with him, let’s operate, become all things to all men in order to win some for him. The gospel of Christ should not be corrupted, this is what religions have done, even Christian denominations. Be careful, don’t take heed to this corruption, we are not too establish our own righteousness before God because we will become self-righteous and this grieves the Holy Spirit of God who lives inside of us. Every believer needs to get out of the way and allow Christ to live in them, by walking in the Spirit and not in the flesh or sinful nature. Grace and peace to you from God, the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. He has given us his exceedingly great and precious promises so that we could partake of his divine nature. Isn’t it sweet that we can live to please the one who finds no fault in us and unlike man looks on our heart❤and not our outward appearance? And he is the worthy one who deserves all the praise, glory, and honor forever and ever! And bids us to come boldly to his throne of grace to find Grace to help in our time of need.

David Islam claims to be an Abrahamic religion. There is no chronographical link between Islam (submission) and Abraham. Judaism is directly from Abraham with Christianity being from Judaism. Islam was invented as a violence political/cult centred on Mohamed an Arab from Arabia who was a polytheist who made a monotheist cult with himself as the sole ruler/ telephone to his god. He was not a Jew or Christian...he was illiterate and he stuck together with many errors his own rambling always changing and contradicting itself verbalisations. It is the content of religion which is ideology that makes it true false or and admixture of both.

@@marianking1379 I understand what you mean. Though, they are quite distinct religions now even if there are common roots. And it just sounded a bit strange to ignore Hinduism or Buddhism for instance and select Judaism which has an estimated 0.18% followers. It's a bit like selecting your samples to match your assumptions. But anyway, i shouldn't be too harsh on this point as this is not meant to be a scientific analysis but rather food for thought. As such it's fine I guess :)

He said the 3 Abrahamatic religions. And he was right. Christianity, Judaism and Islam all originated from Abraham. That does not mean mean David Suchet is disregarding other religions. He was talking about what he was doing.

Read your bible very closely. Abraham and his "God given FAITH" was the basis that God used to build everything on. THERE WERE NO JEWS WHEN ABRAHAM STEPPED OUT IN "FAITH". The Jews came along and kept getting it wrong no matter what God did to guilde, provide, punish them. Then God finally came here as THE INCARNATION, Jesus the Messiah, the Christ, the Son of God, and finally set in motion what it was that God the Father had planned as HE HAS BEEN BUILDING HIS FAMILY WHICH IS MADE UP OF INDIVIDUALS FROM ACROSS THE WORLD.... INDIVIDUAL SPIRITS/HUMANS WHO WERE CHOSEN BEFORE CREATION, THEN GIVEN TO JESUS TO TRAIN/PREPARE TO BE OFFERED UP ON THE LAST DAY. [JOHN 6]. Also, do your homework. Islam was weaponized by the totally corrupt Roman Catholic Church to get rid of Christians for them.... and take over Jerusalem for the R.C.C. But once the Muslims got "IT", they not giving it up. Muslims still getting rid of Christians for the R.C.C. Problem is: none of them know that GOD THE CREATOR IS TOTALLY SOVEREIGN. Jesus said "God has the hairs on your head numbered." Humans make plans but they know nothing. Paul says at the end of 1 Corinthians: "Let anyone who doesnt love the Lord Jesus Christ be cursed - ie: go to hell." Matthew 25: the Son of Man returns with the angels to judge the people who are left on this earth [sheep and goats]. Jesus' brothers and sisters are gone. ... SORRY. DO YOUR HOMEWORK.
