yes, definitely! but it's unfortunate that he's reading from a secularized, compromised, modern version of the Scriptures that are untrustworthy. I love David Suchet as Poirot, but I wish that he would read and personally study from the King James Bible, because he has the voice for it, like A.Scourby.

How critically well timed was David Suchet’s decision to dig into the Word and deliver it to us now, to comfort, restore and prompt our spirits to look up in these unstable times. His delivery is exceptional, and his passion is priceless!

And precisely, this is the isrealite notion of meditation - read and hear aloud, with your own voice. This is what the Psaltery invites us to do from it's very beginning. (Ps 1). Blessings!

I recently listened to Sir David’s reading of the book of John. It was so appropriate because John, like Job, is like reading a play. John has so many encounters with the different characters which turn into conversations... little short dramas. John 3 and 4 have two of my favorites. Nicodemus and the Samaritan woman are trying to talk about theology with the rabbi, and Jesus speaks right past them going straight to their true heart questions. When they get to the place where they really wanted to be, the Messiah was there waiting for them! But my very favorite is Jesus’ encounter with Pilate. Though they are in a ruler’s chamber, as Pilate begins to question Jesus, it feels as if everything around them fades out of focus, and there they are... just the two of them. Suddenly it’s Jesus who is judge and Pilate is figuratively lowered. He too is asking heart questions while trying to maintain his status. “What is truth!!??” I listen to Sir David read that and hope, one day, to find Pilate in heaven. Such a blessing to bring this beautiful book alive! Thank you.

A WWII story was told me about a soldier who carried his bible into battle. A bullet hit it and saved his life and was an omen to him just how serious Christ was about the importance of the "word". I found it hard to believe until I heard some more stories about the miracles that occurred even from my father's brother who served in England as a medic. Now when "the word" comes home from someone who has been there - in such a battle - and you may wonder if God is aware - he came home with his own conversion stories. It was a source of comfort to those who came to him as a mortician to prepare a loved one for burial. To see him, to converse with him, to be a relative of his, you would never be able to see that conclusion unless you were on the receiving end. He never looked like a bible thumping patriot; such is what he was but he was very deliberate in what he said and did and was the perfect example of someone aware of perfection and was hoping for it. His sermon was in his acts of kindness as a mortician. And I was just one of his many nieces and nephews who kept their distance from him because of his perfectionism. L O L . Example? Well, in Uncle Ray's house you took off your "street shoes" and slipped on a pair of slippers that he kept by the porch door. His personal motto was: cleanliness is Godliness. (not next to it)! 1 As a seven year old, I was allowed to go flying with the WWII Flying Priest. He was my Aunt Flo"s Priest and she invited him for dinner every Sunday after church. (She had a house next door to us) don't know how to spell his name - it sounds like Father Flieshel or Fleishel? My mother put his picture in my baby book with him tickling me. But for some reason, I can't find it. (In my baby book anyway).

It is always amazing, the beautiful miracle of The Gospel that has come to us by the tender mercies of God’s Goodwill. For the English speaking peoples, it laid the very foundations of our highest ideals of Law, Architecture, Poetry, Music, into every aspect of our domestic and cultural life. From Alfred the Great to this very day, The Gospel of Jesus Christ and the Holy Scriptures are the very soul of England and Great(er) Britain. Her cultural myth, ethos, and landscape are deeply steeped and ancestrally bound to Christ as the culmination of their cultural ideal and gift, however clumsy and even insincere, to the world. Be it ever so humble; this England…God Bless Her, God Keep Her, and God Save Her.

Nice people but regarding hear the word my personal opinion is that we don't have to take that literal, our brains will hear the words in our head and we can hear the words in our heart. It won't say read the words because for centuries people did not read as we do today. But it is good to head David reading the Bible and I do listen as it's easy to do but I'll also read, parts again to meditate on the meaning.

It's sad to hear David Suchet tacitly assuming that the gospel authors are the apostles, that GJohn was written by John as an old man, and all the other historically unsupported accretion which apparently the Anglican Church is happy to perpetuate, going by the reverend's failure to correct him. These texts can be enjoyed, and arguably can be enjoyed more, WITH a proper understanding of their historical and sociopolitical context.
