I remember having been in Pompeii when I was 11, during a schooltrip. It's funny seeing David going exactly where I had been. And also touching when I remember how sad it felt when we arrived to the molded dead people. I still feel a bit sad when I see it 8 years later.

I feel this is why ancient history should be just as appreciated. 2000 years from now, the Holocaust and WWs will only be textbook chapters when all the voices of personal experience are long gone. Many people brush off ancient history because they feel too removed, or the documentation isn't as thorough to appeal. But that's what makes remembering these events just as precious.

As someone taking Geography Pompeii is so cool. Learning about pyroclastic flow is so interesting it’s honestly one of my most favourite lessons.

I think the guide's accent is superb, and I love David's as well. I'm from Oklahoma and I have an accent and I believe that "ya'll" is a real word. All peoples of the Earth speak differently. It petty to believe that one accent its better than another. All ya'll people need ta relax and sip on some sweet ice tea, ya hear? ;)

I visited Pompeii back in 2018 it was always was one of the places I wanted to visit because of the history that happened there. It's so sad walking in Pompeii just thinking of how many were trying to flee just to get covered by ash and suffocating.

i totally agree, events such as Pompeii or the Holocaust should not be forgotten. I recently went to Sydney for a school tour and we met a survivor of the Holocaust and her story was mesmerising. To think of these sort of things going on to be forgotten is wrong. Oh and BTW loving the sunnies David!!! Molto bene! :)

Wow. I always found Pompeii fascinating. :D When I was a kid I had a book that had pictures of the excavation and artifacts and I would read it over and over. Same with one I had on the Titanic. :D I'm so jealous.

i'm italian too and my accent is waaay worse even becouse i don't know spelling some words propely you know we speak as we read texts so there's many difference between being able to write english and being able to speak it , i'm shy too so it's even harder for me =D , watching DW in english with dubtitles helped me rly much anyway.

We see it as a fascinating preserved piece of history, but it was an entire city that was wiped out. It breaks my heart looking at those poor bodies. They must have suffered terribly.

I'm an ESL teacher, and I meet so many people (locals and students) who believe that a person has to have a 100% native-like accent in order to be "truly fluent". Obtaining a native-like accent is virtually impossible if you start learning a second language after age 13 or so.

One of the most recent being Mount Unzen back in the early nineties (1991 if memory serves me correctly), were over 40 journalists were killed by a pyroclastic flow, they died in seconds. Very, very sad. Just a pile of ash was left of their remains.

Yeah I was in the Marines with a guy built like that. I could run 3 miles in about 18 minutes. But my bud, "Roach" was his name, could just fly. He ran it in the low 14 minutes area. David looks like he can fly like that. I've been a film maker for a while now, and that has to include acting sometimes, (If I'm making a film, I might as well be in it! LOL). Staying fit is a priority. You got to have have the energy for long shoots. And well...it's nice to hear girls say "OMG!". LOL
