Making my rounds, thanking the IT KZbinrs who gave me the courage to switch careers at 32. I'm 3 months into my first IT job and just passed the Security + exam today. I'm studying for my next cert already and I had to stop by and say thank you for all the amazing content you put out. Your videos always reassured me when that little voice would pop in to say, "It's too late." or "You can't do this." Haha I'm having so much fun going down this path, and I've never felt more in control.

Seems like I still can make it at 34 then :D How much time did it take you to land a job from the moment you started to learn? Did you have any previous experience that'd help you get into IT? I'm really curious, just picked up python course and having fun so far.

Thank you David Bombal for making this video. I for one have been inspired to pursue this path. I currently have the A+ and Network+ certs and work as a deployment technician doing computer hardware refreshes for enterprises. So now in 2023 I'll continue to level myself up in IT and enter the hacking sphere starting with Linux. I got the linux basics for hackers book on kindle as well as the getting started becoming a master hacker book and a comptia linux+ course on udemy. I'm giving myself 2-3 months to complete this step of the journey. I'm solidifying my resolve to get this done with this comment.

I enjoyed the list of needed knowledge and the needed mentality. Looks like I need to improve on a few things. Analytical/problem solving/creative - Achieved Persistence - Getting better A+ knowledge - Achieved Networking - Achieved Linux+ knowledge - Achieved Virtualization - Achieved Basic Wireshark - Achieved (could use more practice) Sec+ knowledge - Achieved Scripting Languages - Needs work Database skills SQL - None Web application skills - Very little Forensics - None Cryptography - Could improve, but comfortable. Prepping on taking the OSCP again since I failed years ago. I'm trying to fill the knowledge gaps before biting the bullet and taking the actual course again.

4:22 "There are some people who just need a cookbook. They will never ever going to be problem solvers. That's just not going to be part of their makeup. But most people can. They’re trained. They spend lots of time practicing at it." I think this is a nice explanation of the difference between natural problem solvers, trained problem solvers and those who are not familiar with solving problems. The latter need a cookbook or a receipt to tell them what to do exactly.
