OTW: "Theres a lot of in-depth Linux books, but nobody reads those books" He's exactly right, ive been learning Linux for 2 years and never wasted my time reading a Linux book thats full of everything because I know at the end I would understand nothing. I bought "Linux Basics for Hackers" honestly just to support OTW. Didnt think I would make it past the first chapter. I finished it in two days. And it has been invaluable; and also just a good experience because you can tell he has a passion for this Linux, just as I do now.

There's a few issues with this book that I really feel need to be highlighted: * Snort is no longer in the Kali repos since its been deprecated for quite awhile now making one of the chapters impossible to follow with present day Kali * The recommendation of using pip install is a really bad practice that's even warned against in the recent blog posts for Kali 2023. * The recommendation of adding Ubuntu or PPA repositories for extra software is a big big nono and specifically mentioned NOT to do in Kali's own documentation because it will break your system's ability to update: these things really should be addressed and highlighted and I would encourage you to recommend an update or 2nd Edition revision to correct these glaring flaws. Outside of that I don't really have other issues with the book but beginners and people new to Kali NEED to be aware of these downsides to the book. My comment keeps getting deleted so I've removed the reference links to prove what I'm saying about python and adding 3rd party repositories to be accurate but this can be verified on the Kali website in the recent blog posts and in the official Kali documentation

I ran into the same issue with snort. You can install it, its just a bit of a process and can be off putting for a total beginner. However, figuring it out will teach you a lot of new Linux skills. Also, doing research and applying it is a big part of "hacking" and IT working in general.

Funny thing is, i can still remember the terminal commands that i had to type in to get into getting the dial up to work. The guy at my ISP helped me with that part. 😂 i ditched linux not long afterward and went back to Windows. I recently installed Mint to play around with and i really like it so this video is a huge help. Thanks 👍

Dear David sir, 😊 after some time Everyone stop such informative course type series because of less views and like and low reaches of crowd, and I can understand, these things can lower your moral and motivation. But I request you to Please don't stop this series, because everyone is not longer dedicated, but few of us a need such kind of contant 🥺, so I request you to complete this series for those few subscriber who are genuine to your contant, channel and for ethical hacking 😊

Bryce Canyon in the Juniper advert? Great place to visit. Bought all three OTW books recently for me and my son to plough through. As OTW mentions, your Kali Linux in VirtualBox video is the best method for setting up Kali instead of viewers/readers following the outdated (published 2019) instructions in Linux Basics for Hackers.

I stumbled on this video as I was actively installing Kali on a micro laptop and flipping through my copy of Linux Basics for Hackers. Maybe its just the algorithm, or maybe it's FATE xD This was a great starting point.

I look forward to more of these. Thank you. I have this book, and am fairly proficient with Linux and BASH, but there are still nuggets in the video that help clarify some things. For example, I didn't get the real difference between 'service' and 'systemctl', so it was helpful to hear that the latter is just a newer, better, way of managing services.
