Have only had intro lessons to Linux, but am pretty hardcore on my CCNA stuff (I bought your Udemy course to refresh what I learned over 9 months at comm college for 200-301). You know how you advised to not plug your console port into an Ethernet port - I wish I had seen that PSA sooner lol. One of the downsides to covid and not-in-person networking learning - that never got brought up in class - fortunately my 24 port Aruba switch fell into my hands for free, so I didn't east a bunch of money, just opportunity to learn). Thanks for all you do; you're a gem.

For Cisco Packet Tracer 8 it will be better to use this command: "sudo apt install ". And no longer problems with dependences. It seems to me that this command will work better with Cisco Packet Tracer 7.3.1 too.

Thanks for the fab info David, I'm on the last section of the Packet Tracer course and it's great. Can't wait to get stuck into the ccna. I've installed PT on my minimal Arch installation, it works but there have been some bugs - mostly graphics glitches, but sometimes (thankfully not too often) some functional stuff too. I'm probably going to make an Ubuntu VM (VirtualBox) and install PT on that, but first was wondering if you had any pointers, hints or additional info for Arch installs. Many thanks.

Just a heads up, there is a slightly faster way of installing Packet Tracer on Ubuntu: sudo chmod +x PacketTracer_731_amd64.deb sudo apt install ./PacketTracer_731_amd64.deb This way also includes a shortcut, so you don't have to type packettracer on the CL all the time.

@@buddinglearner7085 -I managed to make the Junos + Cisco labs on my PC with Linux Mint and GNS3, ok that devours my 16GB of Ram, but I managed to do the labs, GNS3 is the only option if one wants to simulate besides Cisco that the Packet Tracer already makes a very satisfactory laboratory, or the IOU, to simulate other manufacturers like Juniper or Fortinet or Palo Alto is the ideal option, but as I said, you need a medium machine at least to run the laboratory well. -Thanks for the crowd ... !!!

Just used this video to install PacketTracer 8.0. Worked! All I had to do was replace it with sudo dpkg -i PacketTracer_800_amd64_build212_final.deb.

On Debian 10 there is some dependencies issues, but it can be install... A repo in github can help you with that. In my machine i run MXLinux 18, a Debian 9 based distro, and this dependencies issues can not be fix it without broken something else... But it should work on MXLinux 19 based on Debian 10.

You can also just double click on the package while in the file explorer - GDebi will show you all the dependencies, errors etc. and if everything is fine you can install it with one more click. At least on Linux Mint 20 that is based on Ubuntu 20.04.

It SHOULD work on any Debian based distro if I'm not mistaken.

Posting this here in case any else is having trouble. I had to use the correct casing for the .deb file name. So in my case, it was named "CiscoPacketTracer_820_Ubuntu_64bit.deb" and I had to type the command with the casing exactly the same. Maybe this will help someone else.

For many years and different ubuntu versions, I had to waste lots of hours reading posts and trying things until it worked (I still don't understand lake of interest from cisco to do a good work, at least to do an image app). The only issue I found is that I can not save files, even into my home folder. When I launch the program, it says Cannot write to folder. Setting user folder to Packet Tracer's installed folder. ##"You can change this setting in Options->Preferences at a later time."## I guess if I launch PT with sudo command, I will be able, but it isn't something I'm glad to do. Anyone happened this and found the solution? I use Linux mint 20 (20.04)

@@pabrobles , I was thinking of the folders that PT accesses to make saves to, and also the folders it creates, as well as the files to be saved. Basically anywhere on the file system PT 'goes to', but you've checked all that. I've had a look around the various PT directories on my install but not seen anything that might shed light. Do you get the same issue if you use ? With other programs, failures to write to a location are usually a permissions issue, but in this case I can't see where the problem might be occurring. Sorry I can't suggest anything else.

The Packet Tracer 7.3 has some installation issues on Debian 10 (buster) and I guess the same thing happens on other Debian based distributions, except Ubuntu. The script on this repository can fix some dependencies and solve the installation github.com/Retinazer/packettracer-installer/
