Good thinking ! 😉 Just did my Apiguard Varroa Mite Treatment today here in Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿. Will do the 2nd required Tray of Apiguard, in two weeks time. Needs to be above 16C / 64F to work correctly. Come mid Sept... Scot gets closer to being nippy! (aka Cold,) As a Nation, didn't invent Whiskey for nothing. 🤣 Apiguard is a really nice product. Alas, EU, and UK only sell those little Foil Trays amounts (A Vet Meds Licensing Remit.) However, I think in USA and CA, I've seen Beeks have super Big Green Tubs of the stuff. 🤭 Think Kamon Reynolds was using the Tub in his YT Video. 😏 🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝 Happy Beekeeping 2022 🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝

This is only my second year of beekeeping but I don't recommend using half the recommended dose of apiguard. I did that last year and I went back and tested after a 6-week treatment of cutting the dose in half and my mite count was three times higher than it was before treating them. I treated once with the full dose after that and didn't have time to do another mite check before I had to button up the hive but that colony survived and is doing well right now I actually made a split from it back in June and they're doing well also. I've decided to switch to apivar but I may use the apiguard from time to time I don't trust it to work but I can't say that it doesn't work because my bees survived and did well after treating them with it and I know they had a high mite count. I'm only treating once a year and that's starting in late August early September. I don't feel like it's necessary to treat in the spring in my particular area which is in the upstate of SC. I have been watching your videos ever since I started beekeeping and they have been very helpful. Thanks

dear david, i have used Apiguard (green box) and found a lot off bees were died infront of hive, i take out tray immediately. I have follow the instruction exactly, temp. about 24C, 10 frames of bees, one tray have been used from the green box. any suggestions?

I put apiguard in three hives as you directed. I did it 5 days ago. Today I looked and two hives had apiguard about half gone, but one box had it all gone. Not a trace left in silver cup. Would I put second treatment in that hive now or still wait the two weeks to add second treatment? Thank you in advance.

Yes you do work hard,and you are good to listen too.The flows in England are on the whole much lighter than yours.l feel hot at 80f l can’t think how it is at 100+f.

Hi iv put this apiguard between two broad boxes its 10.30 pm and my bee are like a big mass at the entrance iv fully opened the entrance and fully open the floor is it right for the bees too mass in front of hive ????

This is my first year beekeeping. Why does the honey super need to be removed while treating? I have two boxes on my hive they laying in both boxes but there is another of honey in the top box but I was letting them have it for the winter. Is it OK for me to leave them in ?

Once again, informative video. Question. If you find brood in the super, what do you do? Move the frame into the brood box in place of an empty outer frame?

Debs, I would see if you could temporarily take any 'Brood in Super' Frames, and add them into your Brood Box. Say near Mid, or off just mid positions. Subject to how old the Eggs,Larva, and or Pupae are. (OK, the Super Frames are much shorter,) so Bees might build a bit of Drone Comb underneath them (...if you still have days of warmth in the next few weeks. And Bees need Drones. You don't say your Location. 👀) And if you have any Fully Capped Frames of Honey in the outer position in the Brood Box, maybe remove these, and either Extract them, Or freeze them, while those 'Super' Frames await to hatch. Then you can add back those 'taken' Honey frames, back to the Colony : as own Stores, or as wet Frames, where they can take in Feed that you do now... to get Bees of good Winter Physiology, as David preaches ! Do your Varroa Mite Treatment when you know you have as much open milk brood (uncapped brood) as possible, Treatments work way better, when you have cells open. Zap those Varroa away ! 🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝 Happy Beekeeping 2022. 🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝 Sure David will correct me, if anything above, isn't recommended. 😏

Apiguard has never worked for me I always struggled to get them to take it out. And typically had to do follow up with formic pro. But if Apiguard works for people it's a wonderful non chemical treatment.

Hey David, Thanks for the video. Question - I was under the impression that the apiguard should go between the 2 brood boxes. Couldn't tell from the video if it was a single or double deep. Looks like you just put it on top.

Thanks David,I use apiguard regularly here in Ireland. I alternate it with a different treatment which I find most effective. If I'm concerned about bees building comb I add one frame of foundation and if they are going to build they start on that, then I take action. If they don't build on it nothing lost nothing gained.

I watch your show every week. I’m in east Texas, I keep a deep on with 4 or 5 grams, I use the extra space to place sugar water bananas and I have no problem yet with wanting to build comb. In one hive their actually starting build some there. But you’ll bee ok I think
