Love the message of the video. I think a lot of people are not into photography but into cameras. I bought a 1000D as a first camera used on EBay 2 years ago. Last year I bought a 700D for almost the same price I payed back then. Massive upgrade. This year I bought an RP because now I know I like photography and really wanna pursue it. After seeing the video I really want to shoot with my 1000D again. Also with older cameras I have the feeling I learned more and faster, because I had to.
@DavidCuhls2 жыл бұрын
Wow, congrats on the cameras! Those are really great cameras to shoot with, well, I personally really enjoy using those cameras myself. :-) You are right, a lot of people are more into the gear rather than into photography itself but I think that if gear get's them excited to take photos, then eventually (slowly) they will learn to enjoy photography as a form of art/creative more. :-) You are also right that you learn more with the older cameras and I think it's because of the "limitations" but also the simplicity of those cameras that makes you eager to wanting to explore more and focus more on capture the shots/moments as well. :-) Thank you so much for watching also for spending your time sharing your story/experience, it's very much appreciated. :-) I wish you a great time, stay safe and have fun shooting! :-)

@@DavidCuhls yeah they are all great. The 1000D I actually got after seeing your video about it a few years ago. One of my favourite photos is taken with it.

@@DavidCuhls Hi, because Im on a budget I want to purchase an older digital camera with maybe 10-16 mega pixels ... but the caveat is that it must have a remote control. Can you suggest a make/model ? Thanks

Really worthwhile upload thank you. Hidden gem is the Canon 20D, super cheap and really good performance and images.
@DavidCuhls2 жыл бұрын
Ahh yes, the 20d is a great camera too! Unfortunately the price for the 20d has tripled in my area the past year, so I've been waiting for the price to drop a little bit~~ But I would love to have it again and make a video of the camera for sure. The images from the 20 is still great and has character to it. Thanks so much for watching and also for sharing, very much appreciated it. :-) I wish you a great time, stay safe and have fun shooting! :-)

@2:37 Totally agree and not enough people talk about this. It seems everyone is chasing just the newest and latest. I have found that the older sensors from 2007-2012 produce great images, with great colors, of course provided you are shooting in acceptable iso range. The digital sensors with processors of a camera can be an equivalent to a specific "film", albeit to a lesser degree, as different ones render images differently with a specific character or colors.
@DavidCuhls2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, also really agree with your points as well. The sensor and the image process in those cameras are still very capable and still can produce "equivalent specific film" look given certain conditions. Thank you very much for watching and also for sharing your perspectives and experience, very much appreciated it. I wish you a great time, stay safe and have fun shooting!:-)

I have old Nikon and canon DSLRs, but I'm thinking about selling my Nikon gear. Canon ergonomics are better for me and lenses are more abundant in the used market, mostly full frame ones. I got a 6D with battery grip and the 50mm 1.8 stm for $115usd. With Nikon i got only APSC cameras for that prices and DX lenses. So, Canon for me, even if i found the Nikon raw files better. I remember the first time when i use the 40D and now the 6D i felt the weight and ergonomics were perfect. I hate the front dial control in Nikon and other brands because my index finger rubs and push my middle finger. With Canon that don't happen. I don't know, it's a thing of personal feeling, some people loves Nikon ergonomics and overall usability.

Hi David! I know this is an old video but I am an avid viewer of you ever since the first 1000D video of yours! I agree with all your points, I have an M50 and a T5i for studio work and I feel at ease using another camera for street photography (my passion haha). Because of your videos, I bought myself a 1100D second hand for only $150 (With only 5000 Shutter count and all the accessories! haha) and I'm so at ease using it outside on the streets not risking gears for my business. I so agree with your experimentation points, I rarely experiment with my main cameras as the risk isn't worth it, and having my 1100D with me at all times sparked back my love for photography. Thanks for all your videos about cheap canon cameras, it really sealed the deal for me as someone who felt that I was out of touch right when the pandemic hit. For now, it's time to browse up lenses and find the best suited one for streets! Thanks again! Love for the Ph!

Hi Johan! Sorry for getting back to you this late and wow! Thank you so much for spending your time sharing your story and experiences! This really means a lot and I really appreciate it. Yeah, there are so many older entry level DSLRs (or even other types of older cameras nowadays) that will deliver great and unique results which really opens the doors for many types of possibilities and experimentations. Furthermore, the entry price to getting into photography has also been lowered significantly as well which encourages a lot of people to try photography (which is always good). :-) I am really glad and happy to hear that you managed to try out some of the older DSLRs and it sparked your love for photography back. I think every now and then we tend to feel "stuck", "demotivated", "uninspired", and more towards what we do after a little while but as long as we can find that little spark back, it really becomes a great push for us and possibly for new ideas as well. I also have to thank you for sharing with me your positive comment as well as compliments! I don't get a lot of these and this definitely also help me to continue wanting to create more videos for my channel! So, thank you! :-) I wish you a great time, stay safe and have fun shooting! Love from Thailand :-)

David I have an old Canon T3i/600D that I still use. It’s my spare when I need a second camera. Typically when I take my 90D out with a zoom lens then the T3i will have a wide angle lens. Works out well for me.

I always struggle to nail exposure with a DSLR so I normally have to multiple photos at different shutter speeds. However other than that I do love the older DSLRs. I used a D3100 for a year in 2020 before moving on to a D5600. With so many old Nikon, Canon and Pentax lenses out there it's a far more affordable way of getting into photography.

@DavidCuhls2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, you are right, with so many good lenses out there from Canon, Nikon, Pentax, etc. it's much easier to get into photography now especially when the prices are also dropping from both the lenses and DSLRs side. It's also nice to hear that you are still using those DSLRs, they are really great DSLRs actually. Thanks so much for watching and also for sharing your story/experience, very much appreciated. :-) I wish you a great time, stay safe and have fun shooting! :-)

I find that in some places they tend to spit the body of the SLR from the lens so while you may be able to pick up an SLR body for as little as £50.00 you will end up spending at least another £60.00 and can easily hit triple figures for a lens if it is more than just a basic lens because those they usually leave on the original body's to sell at a higher price and the whole process becomes a bit of a mine field in my opinion because you may end up getting a half decent body with just a Very basic lens For around £200.00 or less depending on make and model or end up with an overpriced half decent lens on a rubbish body so it always seems to be a cross between a lucky dip and a pick and mix

I buy older pro grade cameras (preferably full frame) but I have thought about getting either the Canon 1D mark ii, iii, 1Ds mark ii or even get the Nikon D1x, or D3.
@DavidCuhls2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, older professional bodies are also great, I personally have the Canon 1D classic, 1D mark III, 1Ds Mark III, 1Dx, 1Dx mark ii and also enjoy the D3 and D4. They really produce great and unique results as well as being well built and reliable. Furthermore, there is really something about the colour tones and renditions of those cameras as well that you don't find in the lower category cameras and they are also kind of a time machine in someways taking me back to through different designs. Thank you very much for watching and also for sharing your story, very much appreciated. I wish you a great time, stay safe and have fun shooting!:-)

Oh, wow!!!!! Your welcome and thank you for the response!!!!! I personally use a Canon 5D Classic with the battery grip. I have a 5D mark ii and a Fujifilm X-T2 as well but I don’t use them as often as the 5D Classic. The 5D produces such amazing colors and the files are easy to edit if you know how to edit them. I’m thinking about selling my other cameras so I can get a Sony a7ii and keep my 5D Classic to play around with and to use professionally if the situation calls for it.

I'm not a professional photographer but I know what I know to be true for my tastes. Older or more vintage equipment produces more pleasing images imo. The super high megapixel state of the art camera images may be technically superior but to me they're too perfect. Does that make any sense?

Instead of an expensive professional camera , I prefer to buy an entry level one and save my money for good lenses .

toys :D thats about it, these are stupidly limiting cams, the fact that you cannot use anything above iso 800 limits you either to sigma 30mm 1.4 or constant problems of not having enough light, but they are cheap enough for toying about :D
