I started with the 40D and then in 2009 I saved and bought the 7D. I was doing a lot of action sports photography and it had VIDEO! Which at the time was huge. I moved and put it away in a plastic box. I took it out only once to do a photo shoot, products for a good friend starting a business. It went back in the box for the last five years. I’ve just pulled it out cuz all of a sudden I got the photography itch. Been playing around with it for the last three weeks and I forgot how much I love this thing. It’s just a GOOD solid camera. I’m not sure I’d ever part with it.

I have two 7Ds. I shoot with professional and they're great. One, 7D is built like a tank. Many of new cameras out now are not as rugged, unless you spend $ 4,000 to $5,000 on the body alone. Price point is so low. You can one for $200 for only body and sometimes they offer batteries, lens and batteries. That's great price for a professional camera. It does have some draw-back. The dynamic range sucks for video. . The dynamic range for photography is okay it can shoot wedding, headshots, portraits, editorials, sports, and wildlife with no problems. It can make you some money. It depends on the photographer. Anyway, great video.

Wow, glad to hear that you are still using your 7D cameras and that you are still happy with them. :-) Yeah, with the old technology, there are certain limitations with lowlight, dynamic range in certain cases.. But for the price, you can't really go wrong with still such a capable camera that is still very reliable, tough and still output good results. Thank you so much for watching and also for sharing your story/experience, very much appreciated it. I wish you a great time, stay safe and have fun shooting! :-)

HI David, this is Roland from Hildesheim Germany, last time it was about the 550D, and now, well I bought a 7D Mark II for 330€ in very decent condition and I love it. Plus battery grip, necessary because the 7D II runs through the batteries rather fast, three more lenses and a bunch of other stuff. Plus ofcourse the 7D II is very good on fast moving objects. I was in Hannover recently (Nanashooting) to shoot a bunch of the motives you showed in this movie myself. One point I really enjoy on the crop sensor is, the ability to use EF glas, which comes in very handy when using tele lenses (times 1,6). Other than that, comparing it to the new mirrorless bodies, I don't know what to miss, everything is there and additional weight for me is good to have, unless it stabilizes the setup quite a bit. I have looked at the new bodies. For me they are simply small and flimsy. The 550D is still there of course and guess what in video mode it also provides 1980 x 1080 like the 7D II, and is perfect as backup or for camera sliders unless lightweight. I plan on setting up a youtube channel myself, (pharmacology and drug safety) and I plan on using the 7D for that, which I figured is all you need for that purpose. So one more subscriber and maybe we meet in Hannover, when you are around. I will get in touch.
@DavidCuhls2 жыл бұрын
Hi Roland, yes of course I remember you! :-) My channel is very small, so remembering my viewers isn't hard and also, you are probably the only viewer of mine from the lower saxony area. :-) First off, congratulations on getting a 7d mark ii, especially for that price!! It is still a great camera and the one I've also been looking to have but haven't find any luck with under 400 euros yet... I remember using that camera when it first came out way back about eight years ago. I really loved it a lot and the dual pixel autofocusing system in live-view and video mode is just so accurate and reliable. Even though I mainly shoot with full frame back then but I really wish that some of the features from the 7d mark ii made it into my 5d mark iii cameras at the time... Really brings back a lot of memories... :-) I also think the 1080p videos are still very relevant and the 7d mark ii has more than sharp enough quality to deliver, especially when I think many media consumers are going back to 1080p as more and more people really consume media through mobile devices rather than desktop computers or laptops... Furthermore, the video files from the 7d mark ii can still be colour corrected and graded to quite a certain extent. That combine with all the features in photography mode still really make this camera such a versatile camera to use and I am sure you'll produce great results with it! :-) Yeah, that would actually be cool if we could meet in Hannover! :-) I wish you a great time, stay safe and have fun shooting! :-)

Interesting and very good review! Thanks. Quick question about the color rendition. You mention that it differs from modern Canons. I have noticed that as well with other old-school Canons vs new R-models. I feel the default color signature in the older models is bolder, more vivid and...this is personal I guess - a bit more "eye pleasing" (for anyone who prefers technicolor :-). What is your feedback regarding that?

Hello, Nice video. I have had a 7d for more than ten years and it has proven to be a very reliable and tough camera. It has been criticised for producing softish images and I have never found a solution to that. As an aside can I respectfully ask why so many KZbinrs insist on having distracting musak in the background? It serves no purpose and, frankly, drives me nuts.
@theorncampbell4432 Жыл бұрын
I really like the look of video from my 7D. Using wide apertures indoors looks amazing, almost straight out of the camera. It can be tricky to match with newer canon video, but the look is great. I still have a Canon 5D mkIII too. Those two cameras are fantastic cameras to keep for multi angle shoots or to use for secondary lenses.

I bought this when it was released and kept it ever since, I will never sell it. Today the value for money ratio is crazy for this body, absolutely fabulous, its a tank that delivers pro quality images if you know how to work the gear. The strongest negave is that ISO noise is a bit too high for my taste above 800. But its still OK as long as you do not pixel peep too hard (clients nornaly do not, its almost aways photographers who are obsessed with this).
@DavidCuhls2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I really agree with you that the value for money is really crazy especially considering how tough/reliable this camera is as well as the capabilities and the image quality that it still delivers. You're right, iso 800 is very noisy but clients won't really notice it. I don't think we have to pixel peep though to see the noise at iso 800, it's just photographers are used to seeing the images from a certain perspectives as well as its flaws that it just pops up to the mind and eyes even before pixel peeping. I think that if one would pixel peep, then the 7d gets noisy at iso 200 but without, you can clearing see it at between iso 800 - 1000 and clients will start noticing them with iso 1600 in my experience. That said, if you know the cameras limitations as well as know how to work with all the settings of the camera, then you can really produce great results with this camera that would still be more than good enough even for today's standards. I thank you very much for watching as well as for sharing your story and experience, really appreciated it. I wish you a great time, stay safe and have fun shooting! :-)

I actually just sold all my Sony gear, (a7iii body and some lenses) and bought a used 7D again, originally bought a 7D new when it came out. Going back to simpler shooting times. I was never disappointed with the 7D. But I don’t really do video work and photographically the 7D always did what I needed it to do and it did it great.

I bought a 7D mk I a few months ago, second hand with only 2700 exposures, being in excellent conditions ,at a price below 200 EURO. Actually, I didn't need this camera, I use a 6d mk II as my first camera. However, I couldn't resist when I found this 7d offered for sale by a very serious dealer of new and second-hand camera equipment. My 7d works perfectly with all the lenses I already had, Canon 100L macro, Sigma 150-600, Sigma 100-400 ,Sigma 24-105, Laowa 100 macro 2x. 7d has very good ergonomics, I feel it very well in my hand, I do not regret this purchase at all. Because I needed a wide lens, for only 120 EURO I bought a Canon 10-18 for my 7d. Together ,7D and 10-18 do an excellent job. On the photo performance, I have nothing to complain to this camera, taking into consideration the constructive characteristics and age of course. Video performance did not interest me at all.

The f/stop doesn’t impact autofocus of any camera. That determines how much light enters the camera and how much depth of field you get to see. Kinda like squinting your eyes. If your shutter speed is slow and shooting handheld or shouting moving objects you increase risk for blur.

Unless your livelihood depends on it then it's crazy to buy the latest high-end cameras. For most enthusiastic amateurs cameras got good enough 10 years ago. Good cameras don't become bad cameras just because technology moves on, just like great old images don't become terrible just because Sony introduce a 45Mp sensor. Idiot - "I used to love Cartier-Bresson's photos but my new $3000 Sony has much better dynamic range than Bresson's old camera". The 5D mk2 is $300 The amazing 6D mk1 is $350 (bargain of the decade) The 7D mk1 is $200 I mean... why wouldn't you buy a 6D for $350??

@DavidCuhls2 жыл бұрын
If the camera no longer serves your needs then yeah, looking at another camera might be nice. The 90D is actually quite nice, much better dynamic range, the noise also looks so much better, not only higher resolution but much sharper sensor that is able to produce more details as well. The body and construction is also solid and that touch screen actually allows for much faster operation. The autofocusing system is also much more accurate than the 7d for both photography and video. So I'd say if your current 7D doesn't really deliver the quality that you want and you would like more out of the camera yet still maintaining fast speed shooting in a tough DSLR size body, then the 90D would be a great option (even the 80D would already be much better in terms of image quality/AF and video). :-)
