Please help with suggestions for what wide flat brushes you are using where to find them what's the best My grandmother was a multimedia artist in Chicago who's who way back when I was a little girl she bought our home in Florida and would come to visit and stay in the art studio she built for herself she did shimmering mosaics, oil paintings and many other things she also taught art in her hometown growing up and over the years her family owned thousands of acres of homesteaded land they turned into the largest rice farms here in U S used land for duck hunters as well. I spent so much time watching her and loved the smell of her paints etc oils turpentine We called her Mama Ceil Her name was Lucille Lewis

Dear Permanent wave - Hi! Thank you so much for sharing the wonderful story of your grandmother, Mama Ceil. We are delighted you enjoyed it and we loved hearing from you. Neither of us use turpentine or other toxic materials in our painting. I use large watercolor wash brushes that you can buy from any rt store and online art store as well as chip brushes from hardware stores.GOod luck with your painting! Kind regards, David and Connie

David, thank you very much for your teaching. What surface do you typically paint on for these tutorials?
@DavidDunlopSimmonsArt Жыл бұрын
Dear artkusserow6448 - Thank you for your question and your kind comments, I paint on many different surfaces, from quadruple primed Belgian linen, paper, copper, single sheet aluminum, a composite sheet aluminium, like Dibond, comprising two 0.3 mm thick aluminium cover layers and a polyethylene or mineral core, and sometimes I paint over older paintings on all of these surfaces. It really depends upon my painting, and different surfaces give different effects. Some are harder surfaces and you can make different types of marks with your paint brushes, squeegees, paper towels, and other tools. I always experiment and learn from all of these paintings. Good luck with your painting! Thank you for writing. Kind regards, David and Connie
@artkusserow6448 Жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for taking the time to reply! I didn't mention in my first question that, equal to the actual painting tutorial, is your expansive sense of art history and literature and how all of that contributes to an understanding of context and evolution of "schools" of art. I remember one when you even said, "Like a patient etherized upon a table..." to make a point; then I had to go back and re-read Eliot! @@DavidDunlopSimmonsArt
