Francesco Guardi's Views of Venice - From Emmy Award winning PBS series Landscapes Through Time with David Dunlop (Program 202, Season Two) (English Subtitles)
David travels to many magical locations in Venice that were painted by the great 18th century Venetian landscape painter, Francesco Guardi (1712-1783), a few years younger than Giovanni Antonio Canal, commonly known as Canaletto (1697 - 1768. David creates a pen and ink drawing and wash of the beautiful Venetian baroque church, Santa Maria della Salute, discussing Francesco Guardi’s use and understanding of perspective. He then travels to Guardi’s home district of the Cannaregio and paints an oil demonstration of the same canal scene painted by Guardi and Canaletto, exploring Guardi’s spirited brushstrokes, his sense of the melancholy and vivacity of Venice and his expressive skies.

David Karel here thank you. Your knowledge is breathtaking. Those masters were incredible. I've noticed the best artists I know are comfortable with those giant brushes. I'm in awe. It's interesting how so much knowledge on the techniques of these artists still survive after 300 or more years. You are the Rick Steve's of the art world.

Are you familiar with an artist named Rence born in Naples in 1922? Studied under Gianni Scarpa and J Benet. Apparently known for Venetian coastal scenes and French streetscapes.
