This also works well in half guard. You can almost literally roll to the side of the reverse kimura trap to sweep its crazy!

I usually play half guard but having a hard time understanding what you mean. It sounds like something I could do. Do you mind explaining it a little more please. When you say roll to the side of the RK, do you mean the far or near arm?

It sounds like he’s on about some sort of John Wayne sweep, KZbin “John Wayne sweep “ mate 🤙

The one extra option with that grip is that you can reach through with the right arm to the wrist for a one handed kimura and then grab the elbow with the left hand and crank so much that they guy will dive his shoulder to the mat. Love that grip but I have neglected it lately.

I have been having a lot success with the flower sweep, sometimes it slips out due to sweat, but I pull it off 8 out of 10 times i go for it. Thanks for an excellent video!

With the flower sweep you can finish it with the mounted baratoplata, which is a nasty sub.

Make sure you got no space between their elbow and your rear arm coming through. Keep em nice and tight especially as you secure the grip. The submission looks unco but it does catch people out that don't respect it.

Sometimes the easiest option is just staring at you, right in the face. Great video 👍🏻

Agreed. I have used that grip a lot from seated guard to spin under and roll guys or force their shoulder to the mat and come up to turtle top but never considered using it from full guard. We were doing the flower sweep last week in fundamentals class and I have an elevator sweep that I hit as part of an underhook attack series where the primary attack is a reverse ( or cutting ) arm bar. Typically, guys who know my game drive the shoulder to the mat to defend the arm bar and give up the sweep. Having these options off the different control, especially one I know and like, will be great.

I get a lot of bigger guys posture up real hard and break through the reverse kimura grip. How do you deal with keeping their posture broken down? Is it more an issue of timing or maybe I’m holding the position too long...
@DavidAvellan6 жыл бұрын
You have to control their posture and prevent them from sitting up in the first place. The main thing is to keep pressure on the back of their shoulder. All Kimuras from bottom require this.For the reverse Kimura, the best way to achieve this is to keep them close and turn to your side (facing them). You can see it when I demonstrate the technique, albeit briefly. But if you plan on sitting here, you need to be able to generate pressure behind their shoulder. I cover this in great detail on the Kimura Trap System online course: kimuratrap.com

Very weak grip, easy to just pull up posture and straighten that arm and elbow and you have nothing
@DavidAvellan2 жыл бұрын
This is true when you don't understand how to use it. The key is to apply pressure behind their shoulder, which prevents them from posturing
