i thought i'd throw in my 0.02 cents about case assembly. i've found that a propane torch is perfectly suitable and easier than dealing with an oven. The trick is to first oil/lightly grease the bearing seat..then go over the case half for a minute with the torch to heat soak it, and then focus on the bearing seat that you're about to install a bearing into in a circular motion. The aluminum will expand enough to allow the bearing to drop right in, no freezer needed, maybe needing one or two firm taps with a socket on the outer race to ensure it;s fully seated. You need to use the torch for each bearing seat, the aluminum cools and shrinks too quickly to do more than one at a time. For bearings that have a snug or tight fit on a shaft, like on a crank, you would actually want to install the bearing onto the crank first. you would grease the shaft, then heat the bearing carefully to about 250F, and it should expand a bit and slide right onto the crank, maybe needing a tap or two on the INNER race with a maxi seat post. let it cool, then heat the case half and drop the crank and bearing right in. It saves the impact stresses on the bearings. After its all together, you would do the seals, because the heat from the above process would damage them. Keep the videos coming!

Heya Brandon. I’ve had varying success with the propane torch. I find on races with little to no metal around them where you can get everything around them heated (like a wheel hub) the torch works great, because the metal just expands into empty air; however, on things like cases, where the race needs to expand into more metal, it isn’t as effective. It can’t expand into the cold surrounding metal. That being said, on cases where I already have seals installed or something I don’t want to get too hot, I’ll use the torch because I can be more selective about where the heat goes. That’s just how I approach it, but everybody finds their own method that works for them. I can tell that you have your method figured out, so keep wrenching!

Rebuilding mine now. Waiting on a crankshaft. Using Avanti piston and cylinder (slightly ported) Biturbo pipe, CDI, and this time, an OKO 19mm carb, I have a 4 speed version, but it isn't suited to the moped frame. I will search for a tiger frame for it.

This was filmed in September. And it was HOT this year! I've had some big changes in the workshop, so I'm late putting these things out. I'm hoping to get into a better rhythm now that my workshop matters have been settled.

Hi David,that can of compressed air looks mighty cold,did it really make those bearings go white.looked like it in the vid .another quality build coming along👍 .I hope the gear that went on wrong didn't do any damage .

Hey Steve. It’s VERY cold. If you touch it after it freezes, it burns you! Works really quickly for putting in bearings.

What exactly is Honda bond and the source please , O yeah really enjoy you videos
@DavidFixesHisShit5 жыл бұрын
Heya Bill. I get my Honda Bond on Amazon. It’s just a gasket sealant that’s always remains flexible and never hardens. There is also Yamabond, which does the same thing. Either is great to use on your gaskets, and I’ve heard that some people just use the sealant and don’t even put a gasket in, but I wouldn’t recommend that.

I just bought another moped to add to my projects it is a 1977 Peugeot LVS-U3 with a gas tank that has a couple of cracks for the rust. Don't know if I will be able to fix it if anyone has any ideas let me know.Thank you

So those rubber rings are what the clutch plate is in "normal" clutches?
@DavidFixesHisShit5 жыл бұрын
On centrifugal clutches, there is a medium that expands under the rotational force. In Tomos, they have three plates with cork on them that fling out to grab the bigger gear. On French bikes, the variator accomplishes the same thing. On these Garellis, they use those rubber sleeves. As they get up in RPM, they will expand and grab that clutch bell so that they turn the next gear. The friction plate you see on the rebuild is just for the clutch lever on the handle bars , so when you squeeze that, it forces the clutch to catch so you can move the piston with the pedals. The weird engineering is one of the things I love best about mopeds. I also love seeing how different manufacturers went about getting the same result. That being said, the Garelli is stranger than most 🤓

I'm slowly fixing that in between the mopeds. Just don't record it... It doesn't provide the instant gratification that the mopeds do. I've got a new four wheel project that I'm scouting for right now. I hope to pick it up in the next month or so...
