Thank you for your work on the commentary. I can relate to how difficult it was for some Jews to accept Christianity. My family and I spent 3 decades fully committed to a legalistic church. Work was the focus of one’s salvation. Our family eventually left that “religion”. And found freedom in Jesus Christ. Yes, it was hard to believe that I was at last freed from all I was expected to do, but the freedom Jesus has given me was/is one of the most joyful moments of my life. I give all praise to Jesus Christ, He is the only way back to God. 😁

I remember that Barnabas showed the same kind of love and care for Saul/Paul when Paul was first saved.

Would they have told the gentiles to abstain from these 4 laws to not offend or because it is not good for them to do them for sake of righteousness? It’s almost like disregarding their righteousness for the sake of offending the Jews. They did not have the freedom to sin because of grace ! The 4 immediate laws were because that is what the gentiles had trouble giving up, and from sabbath to sabbath they will learn the rest. But to say it was just not to offend the Jews , that’s wrong .

Pastor Lance replies - And yet, that is what the text itself implies in Acts 15:6-11. The entire point of the council was to figure out how to include Gentiles in the Church - to make a single community - since GOD had already demonstrated His acceptance of them by grace through faith, rather than the works of the law. So the "rules" the Council came up with were to that end - not deciding what righteousness looked like.

Check the Enduring Word commentary where Jesus spoke to Nicodemus and explained to him the need for being born again. I hope that this helps. See John chapter 3. Blessings!

Question… your definition of sexual immorality is really vague. Wouldn’t sexual immortality cover homosexuality and beasty sexuality. Jesus never condoned these acts and if someone is offended then oh well I tried to tell them.

The word used in Acts 15:29 is the Greek word porneia, which has many meanings which that first century audience would have understood. Here is the definition fromStrong's Concordance. I hope this helps. illicit sexual intercourse adultery, fornication, homosexuality, lesbianism, intercourse with animals etc. sexual intercourse with close relatives; Lev. 18 sexual intercourse with a divorced man or woman; Mk. 10:11-12 metaph. the worship of idols of the defilement of idolatry, as incurred by eating the sacrifices offered to idols
