Hi pastor, why do we not see tongues mentioned, discussed, or taught as a prayer language from the early church fathers all the way until the twentieth century. Or are there any such teachings? It seems the prayer language explanation shows up only after the 20th century pentecostal missionaries tried to use tongues as actual native languages and failed. Full disclosure: I don't speak in tongues but don't condemn people who claim to. Thanks!

Thanks for writing in. The early church fathers sometimes had good insights, and sometimes they didn't. I suggest that the more important thing is that tongues is explained clearly by the Apostle Paul and reference to by Jesus in Mark 16:17. I believe that our primary teaching should be God's word. God's people sometimes have good insights, and sometimes not. Thanks for writing. I hope that this helps.
