This is an immense video, on not just how to use the Rebel G (500N here across the pond), but how to 'really' use this particular model. For example, how to take a double exposure. Canon's range of 35mm cameras from back then we're so underrated, but in actual fact are now back in demand, why? Because they are feature rich, auto focus is fast, and are a true pleasure to use. Canon had an idea, they pursued it, and produced some of the best 35mm cameras, up until digital came in, in my humble opinion. Regards Rob (UK).

Thank you so much for these videos! You've truly been a blessing!! My granfather was a photographer, this model was what he used. He gave it to my dad when he passed, and my dad gave it to me because I've taken interest in photography. Trying to use this camera was very intimidating to me. There were so many parts and it looked big and expensive (sentimental value wise at least, i also didn't know its worth to be frank). You really have made me so much more comfortable with using this camera, and keeping the memory of my grandfather alive. I appreciate you more than you could ever know.

Hi thanks for this video! I have a question about the view finder. Mine is blurry? I dont wear glasses and normally on my mirrorless camera I will just use the little wheel near the view finder to adjust my sight but this camera doesnt seem to have that wheel so can anyone tell me what my options are or if there is another way in camera to set the view finder so I can read the exposure meter when looking through it?
@DavidHancock Жыл бұрын
A couple possibilities: 1- Most likely, the camera isn't focused correctly. Do you have good batteries installed and is the lens set to autofocus? If yes, take the camera outside and focus at some point in the distance, like a city block away. The scene should pop into focus as the camera's autofocus works. Indoors, there may not be enough light for AF to work properly, so it may not be able to focus at all. 2- Another likely option, if you're trying to focus on something close, the lens may not be able to focus that close. Lenses have a limit to their closest focus point and if you're closer than that point, the lens can't focus. 3- Also make sure that your lens, mirror, and viewfinder eyepiece are all clean. Two mechanical issues to verify against: 1- Make sure that when you remove the lens that the mirror is in place as shown in this video series. 2- Check that focus is working with the camera. In manual focus mode, set the focus to infinity and point the lens at something in the distance. That thing should be in proper focus. If not, there may be an issue with the lens.

Thank yo for the helpful video. I just have one question though, what does it mean if the camera doesn’t turn off?

Thank you! So when you turn the dial to "L", nothing happens or does the camera LCD continue to indicate that there's film? If the latter, that's normal.

Any tips for if the LCD screen dims occasionally, or goes blank when moving between settings?
@DavidHancock11 ай бұрын
That's a curious one. I would hope it's just a sign of a weak battery, but if the batteries are new then it could be a loose connection or weak capacitor. I don't know that there's any fixing that or, if there is, I don't know how.

can the iso be changed and also use the green box?
@DavidHancock Жыл бұрын
No. With film, once the ISO is set, you don't change it for the entire roll. Film has to be developed all at once and if you change the ISO during the roll then some of the photos will not develop correctly and they won' turn out as usable images.

My camera looks like it doesn’t shut off while film is loaded and more pictures are left to take . it shows the number of photos left and a bottom circle icon. Is this normal and draining the battery? Thx.
@DavidHancock Жыл бұрын
That's not normal. Typically that indicates that either the film is loaded incorrectly or there's a fault with the electronics.
@lisap2908 Жыл бұрын
@@DavidHancock Thx. The film looked to be loaded correctly and after all the photos were taken it rewound as should be and shut off correctly with nothing displayed. I will see what happens the next time it is used as it is for my sons photography class. My daughter used it previously with no issues years ago. Do you think that we could remove the batteries if film is loaded when not in use? Or would that ruin the photo count, film loaded, etc. Thx for your help.
@DavidHancock Жыл бұрын
@@lisap2908 Good question on the batteries. I think it will be fine. IIRC, but don't quote me, this camera uses some mechanism to measure the weights of the wound film, not frame count memory, to calculate remaining photos.
@thecurioussquirrelreviews Жыл бұрын
I read in the manual that the red L is how to turn it off. If I’m interrupted during shooting I just turn it off by turning to the red L. Once the film is all shot and it rolls itself back into the canister it shows the little circle on the bottom left - representing the canister is done and can be removed for processing. Hope that helps.

Thanks for these video's they are a godsend. I was wondering if you can help me out, I used the sports mode for my sons basketball game but the action shots came out blurry. So tomorrow I want to take matters into my own hands. In manual mode what shutter speed would you use. I still get confused on what is the fasterst and the slowest numbers. thanks for any help.
@DavidHancock2 жыл бұрын
Thank you and I'm glad to help. Go for the fastest shutter speed you can. Ideally, nothing slower than 1/1,000th. If you're indoors, you'll need 800 speed film or faster. To go faster than 800 (which is as fast as computer film goes now,) you'll need a black and white film and you'll have to push it to 1600 and adjust the development.

Thanks for this video, I am looking for a nice analog camera. Since I decided I want a Canon, is there really a big difference between the EOS 300, 500 or 500n ?
@DavidHancock Жыл бұрын
Thank you! The 300 is also called the Rebel 2000 (I have a video on that, too) and this is the 500n. The 300 replaced the 500n and has a smaller battery pack, more AF points, and a smaller and lighter body. The 500, also called the XS, predated this camera by two generations, I think (I think the G replaced the XSn, correct? I forget what the script in this video said.)

It won't really matter since the film that's outside of the cassette will be ruined. My guess is that you'll need to hit the rewind button and grab a different roll.
