Absolutely. Live can be used to write any kind of music. Being able to write and record scenes and sections in session view and then using arrangement view to start building the song is a fantastic way to put a song together.

So loved this. I was back and fourth with Ableton and the push2 and after i realized this work flow for songwriting, i was in! i can use logic when i need to use takes or what ever Ableton doesn't do as well (not much!). Bottom line the work flow is amazing for songwriters. Hope that Ableton comes out with audio takes and more vocal effects that feel and sound organic. But i adore Ableton with the push2 especially...

Thanks so much for this video. I've been edging towards something like this for a while, but seeing your version really helps to crystalise what my template might look like

I recently bought a midi controller. I wanted to start composing songs but I don't know where to start when I have the keyboard in front of me. Your system is very inspirational, especially to start composing. Thank you very much for taking the time to make this video, greetings from Cadaqués (Spain)

Thanks for producing this video! Ableton I believe gets left out of the discussion sometimes as a solid DAW/Songwriting option. However, your video demonstrates how a little thought can produce great results. Thanks again!

Kool video , i've just started doing music theory and just begun writing vocal melodies with simple piano also , so its right where i'm at also starting off basic before i get into the production , been producing music for years but only just started focusing on the composition and writing before i jump ahead with production , i still find vocal improv sometimes better for writing though , but i havn't actually tried writing a full song composing with a simple piano sound yet so we'll see !!! good idea though for people wanting to setup a template to write ideas down for sure as i think a lot of producers get too caught up in the producing and forget about writing songs lol ! ;-)

Amazing Video. Some really great ideas in here. Would you be willing to share a stripped down version of the Template? Just the clip layout itself would be super useful for a lot of us. We could always swap in our own plugins/samples.

This was fun to watch, cos this looks like a really new way of working. And those drums are reallllly dry, lol You must love RogerNichols work :-) There is one thing that I use too, but in a smaller way then I have seen in your video, and that is what I call: SoundKits. As soon as I find a few VST instruments that really match, I make a project where all these sounds are stored with some notes on how to use them. Sometimes I also make some notes on what hardware patches to use from Korg or Yamaha synths. The moment I want to make a song in that style, the SoundKit is already done, so working goes quite fast. But your video is a whole other level :-) Thumbs up from me + already subscribed :-)

Record your guitar, pitch it down 12 semitones, then use a bass amp simulator It’s what I’ve been doing and it sounds pretty great for anything that’s not a technical part

Great tutorial. I need some advice. I bought the APC40 MKII and the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 Studio to record guitars and bass. Going to buy Ableton Live 10 but not sure whether to buy standard or suite. Does anyone know whether the rock drums on the ableton live 10 included with suite or is it a separate pack that I need to buy? Thanks for the tutorial. Unfortunately, I don't have live drums to use as reference.

There are dozens of drum kits in Ableton Live Standard, and there are an infinity of third-party drum kits that you can buy if you don't like those.

I currently have i a "Steinberg UR22C" and a "Neumann TLM 103". I mainly do record modern pop rock vocals, and sometimes rap. I want to buy a pre-amp so that my quality is better, any advice?

the idea of a template for anything other than routing boilerplate kinda scares me. i know i tend to take the lazy way out and with a template that'd mean writing the same song over and over.

how do you connect the transition between scenes so good that you don't hear the change (and a pause) ? It's seems so easy but I don't know how to use Ableton like that
