Twenty three years. The old diesels, Fast attack nukes, and then the boomers. At 81 I can only sit back and thank my lucky stars that I volunteered. Wish I could do it all over again. U.S. Navy, Submarine Force.

Agreed.. Now at 70, I was on the old WWII boats, Redfish and Razorback in '66-69. Wish I'd stayed in for 20+. I was an idiot to get out..

24 Years for me. Two Diesel Boats, three SSN's. I'm now 77 years old. I also wish I were younger and could go back. What a pleasure to work with sharp men, virtually no disciplinary issues, some excitement, lots of job satisfaction!

My only regret is at 81 they won't let me do it again and again. Wonderful growing up experience. I recommend it for any young man that wants some structure and excitement in his life. 23 years on the boats.

Know the feeling. 20 years, 2 months, and 28 days. Qualified to operate, maintain, and train on 3 submarines, 2 aircraft carriers, 2 land based prototypes, and an instructor at NSS Advanced Engineering Training New London. Still know the feeling even after finding out that my ex had 6 affairs while I was at sea. MMC(SS) USN Ret.
