@danasuechilds3 жыл бұрын
When it first came out, I really wanted this camera because of the articulating screen and the upgraded menu. But the single card slot, viewfinder and less customizable buttons is what turned me towards the a7iii even though it's an older camera. I would have loved the a7Siii but too pricey...so I guess I need to hurry and create content for my own channel so I can eventually start making money from it!

@@dadimotobuildsph9101 No, the benefits are there but the downsides are also there. We all have different needs and preferences. I don’t shoot a lot of people in motion. I more often shoot things, or myself (yes, I am arguably a person 🤓), - fairly static stuff. I tend to do manual follow focus if any focus at all, and use lots of older manual focus lenses. Thus, having custom buttons comes in handy in manual focus situations. Still, an amazing camera, and better at what it does than I am, I’m sure!

@@joshcruzphotos You generally get extremely high price to performance ratios. Some lens can deliver some interesting colour rendering or other effects that are hard to impossible to imatate in post. My old telephoto lens (Jupiter-21M) is costs a fraction of the price of my Sony 55-210 kit lens but is faster, much sharper, and has better bokeh. It is however, much heavier, less vivid (coatings are not the Soviets' strong suit), has more purple fringing, and more prone to flare. Good modern lenses tend to have beter coatings and optics, they are also MUCH easier to use due to autofocusing and stabilization. If you have the skills and a non-existent budget, old lenses can be a good option. You will need a lot of research and some luck to get a good deal, however.

I have only sort of re-entered the camera market, so I was VERY excited to see this model since I often like to take my A6000 out rather than my A7II because the A6x00 bodies are nice and compact. This seemed like the best of both worlds - a full-frame A6x00. However, excitement changed to despair when I realized that I’d lose the custom buttons, AND the AF/MF/AEL button that I live by on my A7II. I live for back-button focus. I also use manual focus lenses quite often and have a custom button mapped to quickly zoom the viewfinder for focus assist. There might be workarounds (maybe that AF-ON button can be mapped?), but it’s still a loss. The crazy thing is the A6000 has both a top-of-grip custom button and an AEL button. The A6600 has TWO custom buttons on top and the same AF/MF/AEL button as the A7II. Why the heck couldn’t they at least do the same here? It takes me out of the market for this camera. I realize I was probably expecting too much given its form factor and target market (what IS its target market???), but it’s still a disappointment. I have no use for an $1800 “B” camera. Maybe the next rev will be the one...

I would 100% go for the A7C. Multiple reasons for that. First off, it gets you into a full frame camera body, but second because having an A7C means that the lenses you buy for it will fit future cameras that you buy as you grow as a photographer/filmmaker. Let's say you buy three lenses for your A7C. Then you get really into photography/filmmaking and want to upgrade your camera body to the A7RIV or A7SIII. Those lenses that you bought for your A7C will still fit your new camera body perfectly. Lenses are a long term investment and camera bodies are temporary!

Definitely going to order an a7c, the only problem is no battery grip or "pinky extender" for larger hands. Coming from an a6500 I'm not missing fancy front scroll wheels or features because full auto tracking instead of back button eye autofocus... don't need the custom buttons. Plus you can customize any button for perceived missing buttons. I'm not missing the 2 SD cards either, because if you are using this in conjunction with other cameras on other angles, you wont miss the video if it ever fails... and going through multiple SD cards searching for media isn't the move for "regular folks" with multiple older cameras, and older multiple single card slot set ups...lol I do wish I could take pics while shooting and use separate cards that way without loss of resolution.

Your final conclusion "flaw" is kind of pardoixcal because professionals shooting weddings where the dual SD is a game changer... Not really saying that a single card slot is fine, all I'm saying is that there's really a specific situation where people don't have a luxury to get a camera with a dual card slot. Thanks for pointing that out. I, like you have never had an SD card fail but the thought is frightening. Especially if you are shooting something very important. I’m not a professional by any means but insurance is so important. Plus I like the electronic viewfinder and the ergonomics of the A7 III. I’ve shot with an a6000 for 6 years and love it! But yes. I have been struggling with deciding between the A7 III and A7c as far as adding a second to my set up. Both within my budget. Both with their strong points. And both with their weak points. I think I’m leaning more towards the A7 III. Why? The flaw you mentioned. Better viewfinder. Better ergonomics. Classic design and reputation. And the fact that I don’t do video. Thanks for your thoughts and insight. Both are great cameras! But for me I think the A7 III would suit my needs.

Maybe im the rare individual thats never really needed the dual SD card. My first DSLR was the D7100 and i used the dual slots but never really took advantage of them. I have the a7ii now and im not bothered by a single SD slot. So this camera is intriguing.

Thank You David!! 👍🏻 I’ve had a card fail, luckily not a wedding but upsetting nonetheless. That’s why I only stick with Wildlife, Landscapes & The Great Outdoors & My KZbin Channel.. No People, LoL. I’m going to be on the lookout for a new camera, something good in lowlight, hence the landscapes & Wildlife. I’ve mostly only ever used Canon, how do you feel about these Sony’s for Me? TIA 😉

I prefer the size because it can fit in a smaller gamble. I don't shoot weddings anyways, so it's fine for me.

Completely agree with everything you said. I just want to add that the mechanical shutter speed being limited to 4000 is what turned me away as well. I shoot below f2 a lot of the time and had to put ND filters on my lenses. Don't understand why they changed the shutter from the A7III...

I’m glad that someone finally mentions the importance of 2 cards for professional work. For me, the a7c is not a professional tool due to the lack of a battery grip, no dual card slots, smaller evf, no weather resistance, and no speed light support.

When I looked at this I kind of couldn’t find much I didn’t like but I guess everyone’s use case is different. Have to be honest dual card slots might be be belt and braces but in 10 years I’ve never had a card fail so wonder how much this actually happens without something serious happening to the entire camera which trashes both cards anyway. This felt like a step up in some regards to the a73 so I’d get this or the A74 if I had to choose again.

I love compact electronics and its the main reason I am considering this over a73 and a7r3 but 1 card slot is bit scary, even though I am not gonna do professional photography but still.. this expensive and 1 card slot is not good. ://

I’ve flirted on the idea of going for this camera, and after listening to this review and other reviews; I feel a bit safer with the idea of scooping up the Sony A6600 and one or two good lenses. The other plus to the Sony A7C is that you can get it in Silver

@@DavidManningvlog Thank you for your response. This is something that I a looking to achieve on a7c. I am thinking of upgrading from a6600 to a7c but only if in a7c I can individually control iso, shutter and aperture simultaneouly with 3 different wheel/dials. I hope what you say is right otherwise I'll be basically using a6600 ergonomics with a full frame sensor which is not I want with a7c. :/

Awesome video! I purchased the a6400 a year ago for real estate home tours and vlogs and have been kinda disappointed that there was no internal stabilization. Do you think the a7c stabilization is worth it for the upgrade?
@DavidManningvlog3 жыл бұрын
Man, unfortunately while they did give the A7C Standard stabilization, they didn’t give it Active Stabilization like that of the A7Siii. BUT, the A7C does now record gyro information, which is the info from the motion sensor inside. So you can take A7C files and run them through Sony Catalyst Browse to stabilize them, which is WAY better than just trying to stabilize in Final Cut or Premiere Pro. It’s an extra step, but when you do that, the files do look insanely stabilized!

You have that setting set to something that doesn't record audio. Just change your settings and reset what memory recall is saved to option 1👍

you guys are all wrong about the A7C... That camera stands for the ones that want to upgrade (like from the a6xxx series) and not to downgrade (from the ones that already own a full frame cam) so... no flaws if you want to upgrade... is a preference thing. grab one rather than the other... it's a question of choice!

hey there, ty for the review - there are two simple and cheap bypasses for the evf and grip - you can acquire a rig from small rig with a better grip and a shader for the evf that holds on to the shoe (you wont need it much while filming under the sun probably) - so those two things are manageable. Also, there is 1 big advantage for that ivf position - makes your nose bump free from the screen :)) awesome video - take care

Why such fixation on dual card? Even "happy go" stats like yours, 12 years with no SD card fail, it's a great stat. I'd say that generally it's more likely that the photographer mess up the work than an SD card or camera. There's a probably a better chance you drop the camera with dual slots in a pond than the SD card failing. Or maybe the camera bag get stolen with both cards, or more likely your hard drive fails or is damaged before your SD card.
@jenslorat54832 жыл бұрын
to even waste a thought on using the a7c as a wedding camera, in the professional field, is in itself superfluous. it was definitely not built for that! and everyone supposedly knows someone whose sd card broke, but it hasn't happened to anyone personally... Its a very good cam and the only question ist, if you can live with the given specs… Glases and the small ewf? Missing buttons…
