What do you guys think? In decent light, they’re pretty damn close to me, but then the A7C can also do professional quality photos! Did this clear things up for you guys?
@twentyfifthjt78883 жыл бұрын
1. Bigger grip (for those FF lenses) 2. An extra memory card slot. (for work purposes) 3. More custom buttons. (I understand that these were missing but c'mon the A6600 has more buttons than this.) Needs these 3 in this order of priority. The A7riii just needs a flip screen (a wide lens or monitor will do it) & to flatten out that optical viewfinder flush(er) with the rest of the body. That being said, while I'm looking to buy the A7iv, an A7Cii with at least items 1 & 2 would actually be better for me, since I like the rangefinder form-factor... which is probably why Sony won't do it.

Not sure if it was the camera settings or lenses but I’d have to say that A7SIII is looking pretty sweet!
@DavidManningvlog3 жыл бұрын
Both are incredible cameras for photo and video! The A7C is basically just higher megapixels. If you're shooting for anything where an 8x10 print is about the largest that you need to make, then the A7Siii is perfect and is for sure a much better video camera, especially in low light! If you're debating these two, the only reason to go A7C is price and if you need more megapixels👍
If you can only have one, 4k video is your thing, and you can afford it, the A7S3 is the one to get - if for no other reason than that in the high-temp mode setting, and it doesn't really ever overheat under any reasonable conditions a human operator would be in. You can shoot for hours in relatively hot conditions. The A7C has the advantage of being smaller, but it's limited to 30FPS video, 8-bit color, and requires that high-temp setting to have a chance at being able to finish a moderately long video without overheating. It's a great gimbal camera, really nice for handheld if your use-case supports that, and better for photos/hybrid use. I have both of them, and I'm happy with my setup, but I would probably be more concerned about the potential heat issue for the A7C, if it overheating meant I was left with no footage at all. Losing the B-cam, which my A7C typically serves as, is unfortunate but not at the same level of loss.

I was completely agreeing with you until the BS about 12mp not being enough for photography. Photography wise i'd take a camera with high DR and amazing low abilities over any hires camera. 12mp is more enough for professional work and was delivering shots done on a fuji xt 1 till around 3-4 years ago and if is wasn't for the autofocus id still be using it! I much preferred the colour and rendition of that sensor and it was much cleaner allowing for clearer blow-ups of pictures. Not once did i find that it wasn't enough and not once did a client tell me it wasn't enough. 12mp is not just for insta! heck, If thought that way 1mp would be enough for that. That's some biggest load of poop I've heard come out of somebodies mouth. This camera is the perfect choice for event photography that I've ever come across, concert pit photography would be awesome with it. Id happily shot a wedding on this up until recently people where and probably still are (see plenty of canon 5d mk2's being used along with nikon d3's and 4's). The difference between 24 and 12mp are largely academic especially when that said 24mp camera has an aliasing filter and the 12mp doesn't. Stick great glass in front and what you go. It also has the best autofocus currently out all of them bar the A9. For the family man that wants to grab family video then grab some shots like you showed in the vid this camera would be perfect, don't know who would but you could easily get a 75cm (30inch) done of those said family shots. More than "professional" enough, we've just been spoilt.

You getting wrong low-light capabilities. 24Mpx and 12Mpx may have the same low-light and DR. Because sensor size is the same, and the amount of light they gether is the same, so if you will make both images the same size the noise and DR will be the same. Turn 24Mpx to 12Mpx and you see no differense (almost none) in noise and DR. That is how DxOMarks mesures DR - turning images to same 8 MPx.

The A7SIII does better with smaller details like leaves or flowers on plants. Faces also look more defined in the closer up shots too. There's more contrast. You are totally right. Very good review. I just bought the a7c. It is fantastic. Very good flip screen. And surprising i like the evf, far bigger than old Canon camcorder. I bought it with Tamron 17-28 f2.8 and the duo is impressive. The photo are really professional quality. I am an ex developer so i had no issue with the Sony menu. I found it easy to find what i needed. And the function button give us the shortcut. The menu button could have been closer to the pad, but i like everything. It is clean, i like there is less button, it is more simple. I have the aperture dial, it is easy to pick the iso. The autofocus is impressive. I have done 60 photos today and they are all incredible. Even difficult picture to focus was perfectly focus. Sony has a winner. I would not want a more heavier camera. My kit is 930g total with the tamron 17-28. I should receive the azden smx30 (stereo/mono) tomorrow. I compare the photo between a7c with a7s3 and the a7c is the best for the photo that are more detailed. It retains the fine textures. The a7siii have not good enough resolution. And the a7c is 50% less expensive. I have the a7c, the lens, the microphone and the charger, and sd card for the same price. And the a7sIII is much more heavier. I made the right choice.

The A7S3 is a better video camera for several reasons. It can do 4k@120 for slo-mo, it records with 10-bit color, it doesn't overheat as easily. It also has a better viewfinder, and 2 memory slots - including support for CF-Express Type A, which is needed for 4k@60 or 120. It can also handle very low light conditions - nearly dark - better than virtually any other camera on the market today. But the A7S3 is also bigger and twice as expensive. The pros for the A7C are that it's smaller/lighter, cheaper, and a better hybrid camera with a 24MP photo resolution compared to the A7S3's 12MP. If your needs don't exceed what the A7C has to offer - you don't shoot in the dark, you don't shoot for extended periods in hot environments, you don't need 4k slo-mo, you don't use the viewfinder, you're not big on custom keys - only the 10-bit vs. 8-bit color will really factor into the video you're taking, and even then it won't matter that much unless you shoot in S-Log and color-grade. I'm not saying all this as a knock on the A7C. If you're planning to shoot 4K 24 or 30 fps video only, in normal lighting conditions, set the temp limit to high, and have a reasonable ambient temperature and/or shooting duration, the A7C is going to produce pretty similar results to the A7S3, as the video shows. The A7S3 is more flexible and can definitely do more, but it's not going to produce clearly superior video in average conditions. I actually own both, and use the A7C primarily as a gimbal/B-cam. My A7S3, which I primarily use handheld, has the 12-24 2.8 G-Master lens more or less permanently attached, while for the A7C, I have a few different lens options including the 20MM 1.8 G, the 28-60mm kit lens, a 12mm fisheye, an ultrawide 9mm rectilinear Laowa, and I also have the 14mm 1.8 GM on order when it comes out next month. Why so wide you might ask? Because normally when I'm filming, my subject is at most 2-3 ft away. If I have a wide enough lens, I can capture everything, and potentially do some clipping in post. If I don't have a wide enough lens - well, there's not much to be done with that.

It depends on if the client has requirement for the resolution. Many actually do not have. Some may say min 4000px on long end. Then 12mp is pass. But if they want 6000px on long end, then you need 24mp. As for print, it is not as a big issue as we think. Back the day, people use nikon d700 that is 12mp and 5d mark one that is 10mp. And those wedding studio still be able to print them very big. So I do not think if you are a wedding photographer, you need worry about 12mp. Social media. That is overkill even if 12mp. You only need 2mp camera for social media.

Great video and great question! Since I'm more of a hobbyist than professional, a camera that's decent at both photos and videos is more valuable to me than one which is superior in one respect and falls (relatively) flat in another. Overall though, the situation and form factor determine what camera I use. If I need to be mobile, then I'd use a compact point and shoot like the RX100. If I'm doing action/sports, then either an action or 360 cam (depending on water being involved). If it's a gathering like a convention or house event, I'll use an ILC. However, if the situation warrants and I needed two bodies like an A7S and A7R, then I'd rather have both bodies be compatible with the same lenses and accessories so as to minimize what I carry around.

I briefly considered the A7C or A7iii to upgrade from apsc (which I mostly use with the 16-55 2.8). The viewfinder of the A7c is really small and low quality, even less buttons than Sony A6x00 cameras. I looked at and got the Nikon z5 with 24-200. Super fun to use. Amazing viewfinder and ergonomics, better image stabilization, better colors from raw files in Lightroom. Refreshing. Sony has better lock on AF, but there is something organic about shooting with Nikon. Framing in that large viewfinder of focusing manually with vintage lenses is really easy. The 24-200 and the 24-70 f4 (used mint, less thanhalf price) are great lenses. I am keeping the Sonys for jobs, but for personal everyday stuff I am happy with the Nikon. A7iii with 24-105 would have been quite more expensive than Nikon z5 and the 2 great lenses I got.

For me personally, I'm considering renting higher end gear for specific jobs and then using my a7iii as a 'everyday' camera. Which would also justify using much better cameras like Red Komodo or FX6 instead. The only thing that gets me is slightly annoying colours on my a7iii. Sometimes if someone has a reddish face it will get out of control on the a7iii where other people looked fine in the same interview setups etc. Just seems crazy to buy the same "look" for £3800 (which is weirdly the price in Britain at the moment).

@bhagatriks3 жыл бұрын
what are you thoughts on A6600 vs A7C for specifically live streaming and video? I watched one of your differences video, really enjoyed it. price is not an issue - able to get A7C or A6600 at the same cost.
@markshirley013 жыл бұрын
I only shoot hybrid for social - if the A7S3 had a 1080 version that was cheaper and you could pay for the 4K with a firmware update Id have got one in a heartbeat.

Also, the sensor is not the only factor! My computer cant even handle 4k 24fps footage from a7c without Proxies.... And I thought I was getting a mighty laptop just a year ago lol So Imagine the disaster it would be if i had to handle a7Siii files on it 😭
@DavidManningvlog3 жыл бұрын
I just commented that above and I wish I would have mentioned that in the video. The A7Siii is a monster video camera, but it also puts out monster files, which means even on my fully tricked out Mac, I still need to work with proxies to edit. Absolutely a factor to keep in mind!

I watched this video hoping I made the "right" choice. My a7SIII will finally be here on Wednesday. I care mostly about video, and less so about photos. I shoot at night and low light a LOT and want the best image quality in tricky lighting. love the drawings, the (not to scale) was my favorite part. It's going to be one hell of an upgrade from a Canon 70D!

My friend, I kinda agree I many points but disagree too 🤣. My point is simple, indeed the quality of both videos are THE SAME at 24fps (S3 vs 7C) BUT in my case the A7S3 is irreplaceable just because I shoot so much of my wedding videos at 4K 120, it’s just amazing and the 7C just can’t do it... it’s not worse, it just can’t do it... so it is automatically eliminated from analysis. In the photo side, 12MP is “worst” (gorgeous photos) but it CAN take photos, in fact I shoot a lot of weddings at 12MP and it’s not an issue at all... u get my point?. Great video by the way !!! A7Siii all day, you simply can't beat that video image quality! I'm also on a native 4k monitor for editing so it's easy to see the differences.

20 REASONS A7C IS IMPORTANT: 1. crammed prior Sony tech into this smaller body 2. smallest FF camera on the market 3. weights only 1 lb. 4. full inputs/ports 5. battery FZ-100 from A7III 6. micro-HDMI port 7. single card slot 8. mic and headphone jack 9. A7III screen but flippy 10. better port doors 11. weather resistant 12. easy to use Fn button 13. 7 steps of AF transition speeds 14. 5 steps of AF responsiveness 15. eye-detection in video 16. one of Sony's best AF cameras 17. same 24mp still images/video as the A7III 18. almost same IBIS as A7III 19. better skin tones 20. good value

Actually. In most cases. The a7iii does low light just as well. Also smaller noise artefacts. . It’s only the frame rate that has advanced. Also the 10 bit. A7iii is sharper even in video. 6k downsampled sensor.

So A7C doesn't do 4k60? I know where not talking about the same quality but my gopro 9 does 4k60. Kinda weird no?
@DavidManningvlog3 жыл бұрын
Haha! I know that seems odd, but it's not. Heck, my iPhone can do 4K at 60 fps too, but it's wildly different quality/bit rate. On a full frame camera, 4K 60 is a lot to ask of a processor

Love your channel!! So where do I find the camera that’s right in between these 2, lol. I need one that takes Great Photos & one that does Really Good Videos in low light 🤷🏻♀️🤔 I video wildlife in low light. I’m using a Canon 7D Mark ii right now for photos. & I’m definitely Ready to Upgrade. Use my GoPro 7 a lot for my KZbin videos on my channel. Ready to upgrade that, it’s just barely close to a year old.
@DavidManningvlog3 жыл бұрын
Honestly, the A7C or A7iii is probably the way to go for you! They're both really good in low light, the A7Siii is just on another level. The thing can basically see in the dark!

I can't even begin to tell you how helpful this video was. THANK YOU! I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on the A7C, but I recently heard a rumor about them coming out with the A7 IV. Not sure if I should wait to see what that ends up looking like. Such a good problem to have!
@tariniprasad73183 жыл бұрын
The problem with you guys is you are comparing different cameras with built with different hardware to perform in different situations... try to grade them when shot in low light then we can address which is which. stop trying to fool people. A7s3 has different advantage! Dont take generic situations and compare. push both to extremes and then we will see~!

Can the a7c shoot raw,or pro res raw internally..I doubt it,if u dont want to do too much in post with the colours etc, then the a7c will be good,I personally love the flexibility having to shoot raw gives which is why I am planning on getting the Bmpcc6k soon...excellent review non the less.

So if we follow what you say the futur a7iv will be very bad with 30-32mp sensor. In one year they cannot resolve what they could not in the a7s3 with only 12mp. So a7c is better overal than a7s3 and will still be better than a7iv
