David Maus is hands down one of the top cold plunge reviewer. I did my first diy cold plunge based on his channel. He was kind enough to response to me on social media. His response has helped me tremendously. Thank you again David.

David, thanks for your channel. What do you think about Yeti 350 as an alternative to the Grizzly cooler? Same set up otherwise (same 1/4HP chiller, pump, filters). I’m in Canada and Yeti 350 here costs actually less than the Grizzly 450 after tax and shipping (because Yeti has an established presence in Canada and offer free shipping unlike Grizzly). There is just no cheap way to get a Grizzly 450 here. I like the fact that Grizzly is a bit more spacious, but wondering if Yeti would be just fine…

This for sure. Ice Up is a good start but the chiller and components of the Mod are strong and simple to fix, it ever needed.

Love your videos. So well made. I’ve been using for 3 years now a 150 gallon rubber made tub. Living in Chicago gives me the benefit of long winters where I don’t need to buy ice. Anyways, is there a way to set up this system without using the filter ? I seriously don’t see the need. I’m just sitting in it. The thought of having to buy filters is a buzz kill.

@@DavidMausJr thanks David for the response. Couldn’t you also just attach a hose to the return top valve from the inside of the cooler and drain it that way? If yes, is there a point of even having a shut off valve?

What range do recommend for a smaller chiller 1/3HP. Is better to have a small range 1-2 degrees so it turns on/off more or larger range so it runs longer but turns off/on less?

Should I run the pump continually 24/7? Or will having the pump turn off and on with a schedule limit the life expectancy of the internal parts of the motor due to starting and stopping. Not sure how long to run the pump? Any thoughts?

David, any thoughts? From what i understand The grizzly 450s have two drain ports that can use adapters to use standard diameter hose as plumbing. That should mean no additional holes in $1300 cooler.

Both are awesome and similar. The tub size is the main difference. If you want bigger, go DP, if you want smaller footprint go MT, both offer ozone.

Hey @david, nice review! What are your thoughts on using ozone and adding hydrogen peroxide in the water every once in a while? Have you done that? Any downsides to doing that? I’ve read that ozone and hydrogen peroxide together can have a negative reaction that may cause irritation to the skin. Have you experienced that at all? I’m looking to add the JED ozone generator to my build. Thanks again for your feedback

I like it! I use both pretty consistently with all my plunges and no issues. Just don’t overdue it. I use a cup of HP at first fill up and about a cap extra every week.

400 is not made anymore, so they'll have to find an alternative or commission Grizzly to build them one(400 size). That's what Desert Plunge did. Also noticed NO BRACKET to keep lid up, so if it's windy or by chance it somehow slams shut, hopefully you'll have time to catch/block the lid. Def not cool if kids are playing in it. Other than that, build is about the same as Desert Plunge. BTW, they could have easily pre drilled the Ozone holes as they did for the filter backet.

I’m looking into the modtub. Currently using the DIY 100 gallon Rubbermaid stock tub with ice blocks. I am 5 foot nine and 190 pounds and I like to get into that tub up to my occipital bone at the back of my head. Based on this video, it’s sort of looks like this may be too small to do that. What are your thoughts? I know you said you’re 6-1. Could you get down to just below your ears?

This build can be done for around 2k if you like to DIY. Save a thousand dollars and do a little drilling. The ozone generator in my list does not require drilling for the tube. It’s a much better option than what mod tub provides. Grizzly 400 - $849.00 Active Aqua 1/2hp Chiller - $849.00 (less if you can find used) Abhor Ozone Generator and Venturi connector - $110 Whole House Filter - $50 Hoses and fittings - $35 Mag-drive 12 Danner Pump - $123.00
